Bungled Trade Over The Weekend - Lost Opportunity

in #cryptocurrency7 years ago (edited)

It's getting easier over time to recognize some coin making opportunities. Even with the fact that I'm only really holding BitShares.

Of course, if you bungle your trade, it doesn't matter what you see! Ahh, live and learn I suppose.

Here Are The Circumstances As They Unfolded

It was Fri night when I noticed the possibility. I have a decent little chunk of BTS that was up to about $0.41 per coin. BTS was making a slow but sure rebound after falling with the last BTC correction.

What I saw was that SBD had been doing these jumps and falls. From $6 to 7 to 6. Then $6 to 7 to 8, and back to $7. Roundabout numbers here of course.

Now on Fri night with BTS up, I saw that SBD had stayed at 7 and I saw that 8 coming. I could very well have been wrong. It was just a feeling I had, but based on what I've seen SBD do in the past couple months.

Come Sat morning, the swing hadn't materialized yet. It did later that day and even improved on Sun.

But it didn't matter.....I bungled the BTS to SBD exchange.

How Did I Drop The Ball So Well?

Well, I'll tell ya. It was the infamous memo blunder that did me in, as it has so many that have come before me.

You know what I did? I put = marks instead of dashes breaking up the first two sets of numbers. Where's my dunse cap? Better yet, where are my glasses?

@Blocktrades To The Rescue!

Now if you don't know already, mess up a trade like this on Poloniex or Bittrex and you are up a creek.

Luckily for me, I was using blocktrades.us. Blocktrades is very good about refunding these kinds of mistakes, though I don't suggest testing them.

Never heard of Blocktrades? Ahh you must be new! They have an account here on steemit.

Follow them by clicking @blocktrades. They may not always have the best exchange rate, but customer service is at the highest standard. IMHO.

My BTS Returned By Sat High Noon

After a friendly email from Dan Notestein (is that a real name?), he found the transaction and returned the BTS to my wallet.

Looking back to my trade, the price of BTS had already fallen a bit. The chance I had didn't look as sweet anymore, and my sails were deflated.

Heads Up! It'll Happen Again

Grumble, grumble, bout the missed chance to boost my shares of BTS. With the original plan, I could have bought BTS back at $0.35 after SBD jumped up to 8.

I didn't do the math, but it's plain to see that I would have ended up with more BTS than starting with.

My new goal is to keep an eye out, focus when memoing, and make sure to wear my glasses. Or if anyone can tell me why I can't copy and paste on the BTS exchange, that might help too.

Thanks For Reading & Happy (Careful) Trading!

I have had the copy paste issue on Poloniex. These seemed to fix it, might on BTS too:

1 - Don't do a CTRL+C/CTRL+V. Do an actual highlight, right click, then copy and usually it will paste on the other too.

2 - Try another browser.

3 - Restart. Sometimes both above did not seem to work but I restarted and it worked.

Hmm. Thanks for the tips. I am using highlight and right click to copy. I have the light exchange installed for BTS. Maybe I need to download the software. ???? I'll try using another browser. :)

Huh, did not know poloniex and bitters didn't do refunds. Looks like I know which exchange I'll be using from now on :p Thanks for the info and the post!

Sure. I was reading someone's experience and they were saying that Poloniex and Bittrex require a certain amount to warrant a refund.
It doesn't sound like they are very eager to help with smaller amounts. They can't even keep up with their user base.

That's great to know about blocktrades! Thanks for sharing! It's good to know that they'll fix it even though it's not their fault!

Yea, that's actually the second (and hopefully last) memo I messed up with them. Gotta be more careful.
