BRAVE - the cryptocurrency BROWSER?

in #cryptocurrency7 years ago

I was researching on the web today, and stumbled upon a new browser that uses cryptocurrency - Brave.

Curious, I downloaded the browser and installed it. Basically, it removes all ads and trackers in an attempt to make the browsing experience faster. It was definitely fast - although I wasn't sure how the cryptocurrency fit in.

In the preferences, I found it. I had heard some rumors it would pay me in their cryptocurrency called BAT, for simply browsing. But upon further research, their goal is to have people deposit BAT in the browser (in partnership with coinbase) and they would distribute BAT to those sites based upon my usage.

This is a new idea, but not sure I can see this taking off. Most people are trying to GET cryptocurrency, not give it away. Time will tell if this is something that will take off. I'm not sure I see it.

What are your thoughts?

I was tempted to download but changed my mind. I'm skeptical of the distribution model. Maybe they should look to Steemit on how to distribute currency rewards.

ya, I was skeptical too. Not to mention seems like a bit of work - figure out how to get BAT, load it into the browser, and then pay sites... that are already getting paid by advertising? I didn't really get it. Steemit is a FAR better model to incentivize people to contribute.

I've been using Brave for Android, I didn't know they ported it. Gonna check this out. Thanks.

I didn't try it on Android yet. Is it faster than native Chrome?

About the same.
