Diary of a Desert Dude #2: Cryptocurrency Thoughts & Updates

1 February 2018

  • Many friends new in cryptostuff asking why is everything going to hell.

  • Cryptocurrency gurus, experts, and supporters are still wasting time circlejerking on Twitter, Medium, and Facebook. It's like they're trying their best not to use cryptocurrencies. Recently found out about the ultra-cheap rates for buying likes and accounts on Twitter. Talk about mass media manipulation. Time to start using Steem, guys.

  • Steem received a good score from Weiss Ratings. Listed on Binance. @ned seems pretty enthusiastic on Twitter. Smart Media Tokens out soon. Future is bright with this baby.

  • Sold off all Substratum last week. The team doesn't seem to have a beta-product anywhere near ready yet and in my opinion, had been misleading expectations back in December 2017. Got booted out of Telegram chat because the admins thought I was trolling. Might buy back much cheaper. Remains to be a project that'll really fly if it works.

  • Raiblocks rebranded as Nano. Pretty sexy all around and might even grab IOTA's marketshare. So far, my favourite pure currency. Increased position just in case this takes off. As for IOTA, just maintaining the position since it has corporate backing and such.

  • Been accumulating SingularityNET's AGI tokens. The core team behind the project has recently made an appearance in the World Economic Forum in Davos, as well as partnering up with the likes of Nexus, SGInnovate, NR Capital, and Ocean Protocol. Source: https://blog.singularitynet.io/singularitynet-community-update-setting-the-stage-for-a-global-agi-3c2e642bb5d9

  • Been slowly accumulating some more Agoras tokens over the past month after watching some of Ohad Asor's videos on Youtube. Honestly, one of the most mind-blowing concepts in the space and would love to see more people digging into it and expressing the idea. Updated FAQ on reddit:

  • Laddering down my buys to accumulate more EOS below $8. Ethereum developers not making the hedge on EOS will cry tears of regret later on.

  • TaaS is distributing its third quarterly dividends between Feb 1 - Feb 10 (source). So far the dividends in 6 months (two quarters) had fully covered my ICO entry. With a growing token value and quarterly dividend payouts, this is proving itself to be a stable coin to hold, although still not entirely automated. Other than that, TaaS is well diversified, all-rounded.

  • Pillar seems to have made some progress and the future of atomic ownership accounts could become a possibility. Nice rebranding too. Here's my old post on it: https://steemit.com/blog/@kevinwong/the-pillar-project-a-black-swan

  • Other than Pillar, another wallet-centric project that's making progress is Ethos (previously Bitquence). Laddering down buys to accumulate some more of this.

  • Better use of time in cryptocurrencies: less time trading and speculating. More time time learning, building, and writing about cryptocurrencies.

  • 99% of cryptocurrencies might end up being mirages in the desert.

  • Look for The Oasis.

This news just made my day. I'm all in on STEEM and I'm glad to see the massive adoption. 2018 is our year. We'll be glad we took our positions early enough.

Cheers

Excellent overview, Kevin. I'm sad I sold my Agoras tokens. I was bag holding them forever because it seemed like a really interesting project to me as well, but eventually I cut my losses and sold and of course it went up after that. Maybe I'll give it a second look eventually. A while back I took my IOTA gains and bought some Nano at around $1.60. That was one of my best trades of the year. :) I fully agree about stacking EOS whenever you can. I'm also starting to think STEEM may have some big players interested in SMTs due to tweets like this.

certainassets nerdprince tweeted @ 01 Feb 2018 - 03:58 UTC

If I were to name the big companies reaching out about SMTs you would scream out loud  🙂

Disclaimer: I am just a bot trying to be helpful.

A while back I took my IOTA gains and bought some Nano at around $1.60.

Oh that's an amazing move! As for Agoras, I gotta say that I've developed some confidence on it through some trusted accounts on Steem like @trafalgar and @dana-edwards. Wish I understand more about it enough to write about it someday :)

Btw, what do you think about creating an app (or ui/ux) prototyping community on Steem?

Yeah, Dana introduced me to it also. I wish I would have stuck with it.

As for prototyping, yeah! Sounds interesting. Lots of projects in the space need better UI/UX.

I'll have to check out some of these cryptos. I have a few of my own I want to increase or buy into. Need to make a bit more SBD first. Thanks for sharing the info.
XVG, Sia, EOS

Will be interesting to see what happens in 5 years :)

In five years? To use a Star Trek quote. "It's life Jim, but not as we know it." ;-)

enjoyed the read and am still enjoying the music...I would have never thought you would listen to this type of music. I like it.. also I enjoy something they call psydub / electronica music like Ott have a good night ❤️

Ohh thanks for the trading advice! :) EOS... That's a good one! I should totally invest more in that. :)

Better to wait lol. without a product out yet, the price is too crazy imo xD

Ahhh lol true! Hopefully it comes out!

quitting coorporate social media for some is like stopping to eat pizza and ice cream.

EOS and STEEM are my top two for what I expect to be a difficult year.

Sitting on anything else and waiting just doesn't make sense to me right now. I'd much rather be here, seeking out worthwhile content and using my proof of stake to reward and help people along the way.

As above, there is plenty happening in Steem-land, something that is less clear for many other Cryptos.

Cheers!

Hi - and good comment. Besides using Eth to buy some cryptokitties (like an idiot) Steem is the only crypto I actually do anything with!

Buying some more EOS tomo probably.Got to get my head around this whole 'registration' business though.

Steem is my top tip - and EOS too, although the later is based entirely on trust in DL!

I have some of those not so furry kitties too! Saving mine for breeding later when the blueprints are out in the public domain.

DL all the way, I think most of us are supporting EOS because of him!

speculation is a damn hell of a hobby, Times like this are great to exercise them.

I can't imagine time going back before crypto, only what is yet to be invented matters this point on and never the other way around. The total markets volume could swing things either way with ease. Sophia wouldn't be in the same space with the heads of states, we are here for the years to come. Don't we?

Great update, Kevin!

One can see that you deal with cryptocurrencies deeply.
When it comes to nano and IOTA I went for IOTA till now, since they have a more advanced development than Nano I would say (regarding partnerships etc.)
Have to take a deeper look at Nano as well.

Better use of time in cryptocurrencies: less time trading and speculating. More time time learning, building, and writing about cryptocurrencies.

I can totally agree on this one.
If you want to make improbable profits now go for trading.
If you want to invest in future, go and have your research

Hi @kevinwong,
The amount of info that you shared about
Steem, SMT, Substratum, Raiblocks, SingularityNET's AGI token
Agoras tokens, EOS, TaaS, Pillar, Ethos was really helpful on increasing my knowledge about cryptocurrencies and tokens. I really appreciate it.

I haven't really do any trading on these cryptos as I am concentrating more on accumulating steems at the moment.

Definitely, continue to learn about cryptocurrency.
I may not reach the level of writing nor building it, but knowing that I got a very good clue on finding the OASIS is more than enough at the moment.

Thank you for sharing.
Cheers.

I would say now is a pretty decent buying opportunity. For me 2018 will be more about investing deeper into the projects that are materializing and where i see solid evidence that they deliver on their plans and promises. Given the track record of Dan i think more EOS is definitely good. Steem no doubt has solid foundations to go high in 2018.

Another crypto i am looking into at the moment is Enigma ENG - have you done any research on it?

Yeah Enigma seems interesting. Well there's space for everyone. Adoption is still a big question mark for 99% of the cryptos..

I've been intrigued by FORCE coin. It seems to be a community project with real traction, specifically designed to be part of a system of co-evolving blockchains. Its market cap is up 4 fold in the last 30 days. Do you like it or does it look like a pump and dump?

adoption is taking time, when talking with people not directly involved in crypto its obvious that they have already been brain washed by the government media about cryptos being risky and associated with illegal activities etc..

This is very useful, thanks for sharing. Try not to cry for getting booted out of a chat room for telling people what they don't want to hear*!

Somehow I don't think you care too much about that though.

After dabbling in online communities for 2 years now, now I know why some are branded trolls lol.

I've never liked chat rooms - although the various steemit channels on discord seem friendly enough.

Those new to crypto do have to be mindful that right now the crypto market is all speculation. In the future, when these cryptos have working products, it's only THEN that the market will start 'pruning' out all the bad cryptos, which will inevitably go to zero. Thanks for the important reminder to choose a coin not because it is greatly discounted due to a correction or because it has low market cap or a cheap buying price. It's important to believe in the technology and be in it for the long run, believing that despite any government regulations, crypto will prevail eventually if it is better and more efficient than fiat.

Auuuuuu thanks for the update, I always for forward for these post of yours. Learning, building and writing!! YASSSSS !! By the way, stealing that Playlist 😍

Really glad you put this article out. We're in a big pull back right now, so this is great information for us newbies who have an opportunity to get in now. I appreciate the the update on Substratum. I'm going to pass on that for now. I'm really excited SingularityNET because it essentially creates a hive mind for AI developers and rewards them for developing AI (AI developers are already highly motivated) and Nano/Railblocks. Very cool that the SingularityNET developers were in Davos building relationships.

This is a wonderful rum down of the present happenings in blockchain cryptocurrency. You seem very enthusiastic and confident about steem and that's lovely .

Steem received a good score from Weiss Ratings. Listed on Binance. @ned seems pretty enthusiastic on Twitter. Smart Media Tokens out soon. Future is bright with this baby.

I think this is something one should always be reminded of whereever there is panic like this. Steem has a great future and only the hypermetropic can see this...the myopic only settle for panic.

Well, we sit in the Oasis right now. So it shouldn't feel that bad :D

Yeah, I'm also interested in SingularityNET and Agoras for a while.
One of my friends is accumulating Pundi-x tokens (ICO that is partnered with QTUM) they've got very interesting decision for everyday payments using crypto.

Since I started trading, guys like you inspire me the most.

I have Steemit to thank.

I am still new af, but at least... I like to think I am not panicking just because of a dip and then selling out like another weak hand.

That's why I read stuff like this all the time.

Thank you brotherrrrrr

Look for the Oasis,,, it gets annoying after awhile how they all drop nearly in lockstop, no discernment, oh well. Great talk on @blocktalk with @ned and @heimdanger, really learned a lot about SMTs and how the future will be in apps probably not even imagined yet. Peace

I bought substratum when it was around $1.5, we'll see what happens. I'm going to buy some ethos and agoras tokens, hopefully they won't go down after I buy them :P.
It's super nice to see your investment strategies, your transparency and good will are rare.

Nice bro, haven't stopped by you for ages and what a perfect post to see what you've been up to. Your moves looking great man, Steemit is surely the Oasis baby! Oh and I'm strong for EOS too, happy days and exciting times to come out the bearish Jan! 👍

Dear @kevingwong what would you suggest me as a new user to do ? I am thinking only to power up , that means making my sbd - > steem - > SP . Is this the best long term strategy?

Yes, my opinion: Steem Power is the best thing ever..

I wanted to convert my SBD to STEEM, but it's just too low at the moment.

thank you kevin

I enjoyed reading this while listening to the 90's porno movie music provided.

Lol it's exotic stuff

SBD is on the downtrend, might even go lower than $1, better just keep it first than selling it, keep it as an investment for the time being. Almost all cryptos are going down maybe partially caused by the attack on Japan crypto recently by hacker.

I personally wouldn't hold SBDs.. unless if its under a dollar

So did you convert it into STEEM? Any advice?

I like Steemit,as the whole crypto world is bleeding and blaming media bla bla....we are here unbothered at all and its business as usual ie post, vote and comment.

Better use of time in cryptocurrencies: less time trading and speculating. More time time learning, building, and writing about cryptocurrencies.

Let us keep Steemin folks and the future is bright for Steem.

All good calls especially EOS.🤩👌🏼 I literally just became obsessed with Steemit. I don’t think the crypto community understands what’s going on here. I’m starting to move everything I can into the platform.🙌🏼😁📈♻️

excellent job and post

An excellent approach to the EOS and your investment analysis fully demonstrates the wisdom of the steps taken. Now of course there is a great desire to buy some coins, since the correction affected everyone, but here need a good calculation and foresight. In my STEEM with its function, Steem Power is one of the best purchases! Thank you @kevinwong and keep us informed of what's happening!

Beautifully explained thanks for sharing keep it up i am waiting for your upcoming post wish you all the best

@Resteem & follow has done.

Nice post beautiful presented and explained. detail oriented with nice update cryptocurrency information. thank you @kevinwong for sharing

Funny how I find your post very timely since I just had a talk with a workmate who's a crypto-trader and I'm just a noob at it. A couple of your inputs somehow aligned with what we talked about.

Hello friend @kevinwong, very good information gathering. I agree that some of the Cryptomonedas are a mirage but there is another that this year showed some stability. In the end you have to be always updated with regard to this world and that's why I thank you for your post. Greetings.

Thank you very much for the information. Hopefully getting better in the future. Thank you for your support and I am here to show you all the abilities I have. Good luck always for you @kevinwong.

Thank you @kevinwong for the information, it is the growth of cryptocurrency

This very good analysis about cryptocurrency. It is very informative and educative valuable.I have seen your video. That a nice video
This is very helpful for us.Thank you very much

very good information @ kevinwong, this is very useful for the crowds. That's what life says, sometimes it does not happen the way we want it to be. Like the price in a market, it makes us confused. Because that's what it says with market politics. Thanks for sharing this helpful information.

Pointed updates

@kevinwong, Absolutely very interesting & important post to new cryptostuff. I agree with your points. Yep..every cryptos going to the hell. Today all of top cryptocurrency seems red liner sticks.
Steem currently low down under $5, so time to buy more steem. I believe after the the SMTs coming out steem and other some cryptos start a gaining. Better to follow your crypto portfolio. I think ETH can be coming to top list than BTC. Its only my opinion. EOS also attractive ICO project. I'll check other cryptos as you discuss there.
However after some tough period lot of cryptos will be high in this year. Be patience.

wow thanks so much for sharing your insights. excited to see what the future beholds for Steem ❤
