My first crypto blog post and it isn't a pleasant one. I came back this evening all hyped up from the Team Malaysia Ladies Bootcamp in SITEC Shah Alam and thought of logging into my Poloniex account to check on a couple of things which I was so looking forward to write about after getting some ideas from the event.
I logged in with my username and password without any issues but then when I tried to key in my 2FA password, it failed. I thought that I had keyed it in wrongly but when I checked it again and it was correct. Hence I tried it again and it still failed. I got anxious and tried again twice! Big mistake, Poloniex then came up with a message that said the system locked me out temporarily. I thought, oh well...temporary is ok right? To my horror the next thing I know, I receive an email from Poloniex. One of those "You have successfully logged in to your account..." emails!
You can imagine what happened next, I had a full on panic attack! I frantically tried to log into Poloniex again but the same message popped up saying that I was locked out by the system temporarily! My heart was beating so fast I thought I was going to get a heart attack!! I didn't know what to do! Hence I went back to my email again and read the last line that said, "If you don't recognise this login, you should freeze your account..." I clicked on it straight away and it took me to the Poloniex site that asked me to confirm that I wanted to freeze my account which I did. So now my account is FROZEN! !@#$%
So the only thing left to do was to log into their Support Center and create a ticket about this whole thing. So there isn't much that I can do now except to wait. Learnt a couple of things tonight...
- If at first you can't log into your exchange/email/account...etc., just relax take a breather and try again 5 minutes later! My mistake was to try continuously. I really don't know what it was, maybe the internet was a bit unstable, maybe the authentication app was a little off sync....I don't know...DON'T KEEP TRYING
- Enable 2FA on everything that you can enable on. Even your email! Since I use gmail, I also enabled it!
- Better safe than sorry, I don't regret freezing my account. What if my account was really compromised?
- Finally, the lesson of "invest only what you can lose" is really hitting home right now
I guess this isn't as bad as some people who had their account disabled/frozen by the exchange since I froze the account myself. I am really bummed about this and am praying hard that their support people will come back to me sooner than later.
Anyone ever experience something like this? How long do their support take to resolve issues like this? Please do share in the comments below! If you have a similar experience with good endings, I would so love to hear them. If you don't, please don't share them. I want to keep my spirits up... or even better you could share some love by upvoting this post.
Thanks!
p/s I am so looking forward to write an update about my account being back to normal again...soon.
you'll need to become emotionless if u want to do trading :D
Thanks, losing I can understand but a locked account?
Emotionless in both cases bcoz we could do nothing in each case except hoping for good 😃
Ouch, not funny.
I hope all gets sorted pretty soon. I don't have an account on Poloniex so I don't have a clue how long this will take.
Good luck with it!
Yeah ouch indeed..I really shouldn't have gotten so anxious so fast. Anyway hoping the system works and I get my account unfrozen soon.
Hang in there! They will revert for sure.
Thanks Angie! Hugs
i can only say .. good luck. Poloniex is not know for its superb support. But I could be wrong.
Crying now...sob!!
That was disappointing. I hope its going to be solved soon. Nothing much you can do other than waiting. Waiting game. That's the worst torture game.
Thanks a lot. Yeah the feeling of losing in trading is totally different from a locked account!! Gah....really praying for a miracle!
Probably have to be cautious of the time difference too. Any progress so far?
Hey Maverick yeah they responded immediately with some instructions to do certain things like enable 2FA on your email as well...etc. and then they asked me to reply to their email that i have done the steps requested. Waiting game now...i think what happened last night was there were some snyc issues with Authy!! My poor BTC!!
Aiyooo so scary...I never encountered such issue but now I learned that even 2FA could be out of sync 😧
Check your PC you might have trojan virus sneaking around.
Weeks before they reply.
