Is the SHIFT Project in Trouble?

in #cryptocurrency7 years ago (edited)

Having been involved in the SHIFT community both as an investor, community chat participant, and have a delegate node, it's clear that there has been a lot of hype surrounding their "Phantom" technology currently on testnet which will enable static websites hosted on an IPFS backend using the SHIFT blockchain. However recently it seems like the project itself might be in trouble and facing some troubles ahead.

Even though there is a chat channel with the developers on it, the communication between Developer and Community seems to be noticeably lacking in quality, and frequency.  For example, if my memory serves correct about a month ago it was revealed that the source code being used by SHIFT had a bug in it that would send private keys to the dev servers in plaintext when using their hosted web wallet. If you had your own delegate node, providing you were using HTTPS this wouldn't have effected you as you control the node. However if you ever once used the web wallet they host before the fix, there is a chance you compromised and it is best to transfer your funds to another, brand new, account.  Before this was fixed it took the SHIFT team a long time to respond to the community about whether or not SHIFT was effected, and when it was finally revealed that it was, it took them a long time to announce and action a resolution to this issue.

Furthermore, Phantom was scheduled to be phased out of testnet into mainnet at the end of July (coincidentally it was the same day that GitHub had some service issues). Initially the release to mainnet was postponed until after GitHub recovered from their service issues, however it took awhile for the developers to tell this to the community. Fast forward a couple days, and Phantom has been postponed, which no clear release date being given to the community.

Right now the community is waiting until the next developer for the "July" newsletter release which will have also been delayed.

Initially I was very supportive of SHIFT Team and the project, however recent events have made me question my SHIFT holdings, after which I decided to liquidate them. I'm still running my SHIFT delegate node, however whether or not I continue for longer than my VPS contract (6 Months) will be entirely dependent on what happens with SHIFT in the coming months.
