On the 13 march Christine Lagarde, the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), posted an article named "Addressing the Dark Side of the Crypto World" on the IMF Blog.

In this article she explains that crypto-currencies can be used for money laundering or terrorist financing. She gives the shutdown of AlphaBay as an exemple.
She says that the rapid growth of crypto-assets and their extreme volatility can be a problem too.

But on the 16 April, she posts a new article "An Even-handed Approach to Crypto-Assets" and proposes the IMF to regulate crypto-currencies.

Indeed she starts with giving some exemples of the potential benefits : She says crypto-currencies enable fast and inexpensive financial transactions and she thinks we need a better balance to allow pas for a better financing stability.

She ends up saying that we need an even-handed approach to crypto-currencies and the IMF "can play a key role by offering advice and serving as a forum for discussion and collaboration in the development of a consistent regulatory approach".
