Creating Blocks For Cardano

wt8cm9.jpg

I am spending time in a small medieval castle in Italy. Many of the walls were here more than 700 years ago. It feels incredibly safe.

Now I am sitting here, connected to the digital world through a narrow-bandwidth wireless router, and manage my Cardano stake pool (server) to make sure it creates blocks when scheduled. Thanks to everybody who worked on building the internet that allows me to accomplish this time-warp.

The other time-warp is that I learned my BSD and System V Unix skills in 1989 when I was responsible for a cluster of Sun workstations and three all shiny brand-new Silicon Graphics personal Iris (super-)computers. Luckily most of these skills translated astonishingly well to 2020's Linux operating system.

For the people who lived here 700 years ago, the castle's walls provided protection and trade, or craftsmanship provided income. For me, the protection comes in the form of cryptography, and revenue comes from producing blocks for the network.

Today my pool, Kontiki, has created its 100th block, five blocks per day on average.

Onward and upward!

Glad to hear they have brought that medieval castle up to speed with the Internet! First blockchain castle? 😁

Wow my lord @mariusfebruary happy year 2020, in that castle must feel like a more blue blood, I do not know if king, prince, duke heh
But if castles or palaces were a fortress before, although there were some that were demolished or invaded.
Each one keeps an endless number of stories within those four walls.
I live in a castle, which is my home.

Having a great time ey? the castle's wall craftsmanship is beautiful and that capture is simply beautiful, o think I can relate with how it provided protection, the materials for the construction looks indestructible.

Hey, Happy new year. I wish this year to be a great blessing and success for you and your family.

What a great contrast between medieval times and our times, technology has advanced so much, it is wonderful! I like your photo of the castle, it must be interesting to be there. Last year I was reading a series of beautiful places in Italy and what caught my attention the most is that there are many castles in Italy.

An interesting contrast, thick walls and technology goes through it, a hug enjoys the moment @mariusfebruary

Hello Marius, I'm an Ada stakeholder... I'd like to join your stakepool! Can you suggest me anything about what I have to do? Sorry for my English, I'm Italian... Looking for kontiki I found 3 stake pools. Which of them I have to join?

Thank you for staking on my pool. Yes there are three but only one is active. Are you using Daedalus? Then just take the one with the best rank. The active pool has a total stake of about 18M right now and 2 blocks so far in the current epoch. The other two pools have 0 stake.

No, i use Yoroi

The correct (alive) version of my pool has id 6f23b9a72c6123b485594cc27dfc67ac870004135ee2286b92a05b592a52307c. I don't know if Yoroi displays the poold id...

Happy New Year to you @mariusfebruary
I do LOVE castles... this one is a real beauty!

Spectacular story and experience. The best thing is that the technology he uses in 1989 is compatible for this incipient new year and other (he thought) technologies + ías. I congratulate you. Now how fantastic it is that you can despair from a construction of more than 700 years! incredible
I loved your story, I could almost feel the thick, secure walls that surround and protect you.
A hug.

Very happy new year @mariusfebruary!

I imagine what it must feel like to be in such strong structures that have been standing for many years and will surely continue for many more years.

Although today there is no place as safe as the fortresses of those times, it must feel nice to be in there.

With cryptography today you have the possibility of building an empire that helps give us security, even if it is only economic security.

Greetings and great year to you!

Exquisite combination of technology and history!
