The process for determining yesterday's trending news is as follows:
- Raw trollbox logs are analyzed to find valid http links
- Links that were seen previously are filtered out
- Links that were posted by a single author are filtered out
- Low value links or links related to old news are filtered out
- Links are manually classified by topic and/or token
- Link groups are assigned an activity level, ranging from low (several unique authors) to medium to high (tens of unique authors)
- Key points are extracted from each link group
- Public, private chains, centralized ledger and "traditional payment channel" were used
- A single transaction spanning multiple ledgers was sent
- bitcoin plug-in for its Interledger protocol was open-sourced to support this transaction
- Quadriga: "when we upgraded from Geth 1.5.3 to 1.5.9, this contract failed to execute the hot wallet transfer for a few days in May. As a result, a significant sum of Ether has effectively been trapped in the splitter contract. "

At what point can Quadriga recover the Ether? Or is it permanently lost?
AFAIK, at this moment it's lost but there are some Ethereum Improvement Proposals that may unlock trapped ethers if implemented.
