After waiting for what seems like ages, my Ledger Nano S hardware wallet finally arrived today! It didn't go entirely flawlessly, as the delivery company screwed up the delivery for couple of times in a row. I'm very excited though!
Looking back on the ordering and delivery process, I sincerely regret choosing the cheapest shipping option - nothing but headaches and extra costs in calling the company's paid telephone number! I advise anybody looking to buy a Ledger wallet to choose a different delivery method than the cheapest one.
But enough of that, it's finally here, so let's get on with it! My apologies for the bad lighting and quality of the pictures, it was already a little bit into the evening when I took these pictures.
First off, it comes in a small plastic sealed box (mailed inside bubbly foil envelope):
Opening the box, we immediately see the Ledger Nano S neatly displayed! Looks chique, kinda!
These are the full contents of the box: The ledger, an USB cable and a little envelope containing a backup-sheet for the passphrase, as well as a bunch of cords and keychain-stuff which I imagine is only really there to fill the box with some additional contents. Nobody really puts this on their keyring do they?
A shot of the recovery phrase back-up sheet. The other contents of the small envelope were rubbish - just a little welcome thingy and another card with the website URL on it.
My first impressions of the device are: Cool, it's finally there! But also: This feels and looks rather flimsy! I've read this critique before online, most notably about how the buttons feel cheap and flimsy. But taking a closer look at the device myself, I can confirm the buttons do not feel very durable. The protectorcase that slider around works well, but feels a little on the loose side.
A more pressing concern I immediately had when I investigated the device is the fact that the supplied USB cable only partly goes into the device! Below you can see the issue. It doesn't go in any further and obviously I am wary of applying too much pressure. I don't think this will affect the usage of the device, but it does seem to me like it is a weak point (perhaps the cable will easily break?) and aesthetically it's definitely not the best design choice.
That's all for the unboxing and first impression part! I haven't tried to setup the device yet, which I will attempt to do next, so I can actually get a feel of the user experience with this device. When I've figured it all out, I will report back with my findings! For now, I was too excited not to share this already! ๐
Thank you for this unboxing :)

It sucks that the Ledger Nano S has a shipping delay, but it is worth the wait AND the money. I feel a lot better now that my money is protected by a hardware wallet. In the end, I only chose the ledger nano S because it supported more coins than the Trezor. Both would be a better option than a web or desktop walllet.
