As humans we are still primitive. We are still animals that are evolving slowly. The leader in a lions pack would be the lion with the strongest power which would have the best hunting skills, a crucial need for the survival of his pack.
Money are just representing our power on getting the basic needs for our survival, which is water, food and shelter. Having money would lead to a better social status and make us more attractive to the opposite sex, which essentially puts us in the leader position of our pack.
However, even now -that we are capable of getting the basic needs easier and with safety, we are being effected by the money someone possesses. We even chose the people that govern us based on the power they have-like we need them in order to hunt our food.
