There's always a vision phase in a revolutionary new technology. Then reality sets in. Then comes the slow building of the technology to get products available to the early adopters. - Paul Borrill
People are given something along the adoption curve that sets their imagination alight; the earlier they join the wider the field to conquer.
Thanks to cryptocurrencies there is a massive mostly unseen tsunami of technological disruption forming at the moment: "The internet of money" how it is often called.
We are nowhere near the early adoption majority phase yet, because it's still really hard to use cryptocurrency. Yet, joining that movement before its mass adoption harbors extraordinary advantages.
Here's to the great benefits of being earlier than early adopters!
@surfermarly dancing in the rain and juggling with the steemit beta logo
We're pioneers!
It's not only the possibility to say 'I was one of those' what makes early adoption so delightful.
Networks such as Steem provide their first members with the unique opportunity to actively participate in its design progress. Early adopters are those who have a considerable influence on the further development of the product. The bugs they discover and the potential they reveal is of extraordinary value.
We're more than beta testers.
Just think about these benefits of being an early Steem adopter:
- Investors: Buy in when the Steem price is still relatively low and secure an equity stake that will experience a considerable rise in value in the long run.
- Developers: Discover business ideas in the very beginnings, team up with the smartest members of the network before others do and build new apps on the blockchain during it's fast-growing period.
- Authors: Gain best visibility for your content within a still manageable amount of competitors, discover and conquer your niche and build up a solid brand right from the start.
- Curators: Discover and support potential influencers right from the start, build a profitable curation strategy and ensure the best ROI in the long term.
We don't swim with the tide, we are the tide :-)

The Lunatic Fringe
There is a missing piece here and it is within the 2.5% innovators slice. It is the lunatic fringe, the very first people to start using the new technology. The lunatic fringe is what gets the word out to the early adopters. The lunatics are ones that prove its use and can’t shut up about it (◕‿◕). - Leon Gaban (This is the early days of cryptocurrency)
That is us! Me writing this and you reading it. Right?
To be honest I accidentally became an early adopter of Steem.
Usually I'm not the typical person that really needs to be one of these lighthouse customers that camp in front of a mobile technology store in order to immediately purchase a new smartphone version after its release.
In one of my last blog posts I confessed that I'm still using my iPhone 5 and actually don't have any problem in doing so.
Guess when I discovered the brandnew Instagram feature called Boomerang? Today! Haha - I told you: before joining Steem I was a technological dinosaur in all ranks.
@surfermarly discovering Boomerang - welcome to the 21st century, Marly! :-)
Early adopters have many faces
Just look around you!
Crypto people don't fit into any scheme, we're as diverse as humanity itself.
There are business men, entrepreneurs, investors, then we have creative people, artists, designers, filmmakers, also influencers, former youtubers, communicators, as well as developers, miners, programmers, and then we have anarchists, freedom fighters, anti-government people that even blog post from being in jail (to be honest that group scares me a bit sometimes :-))
The list could be endless.
No matter who we are or where we come from, we've got one thing in common: we're all here!
And in a couple of years we'll tell them:
It was fun seeing the early adopters arriving then...:-)
Happy steeming!
Marly -
Thanks for your valuable time!
This blog was launched at the end of July 2016
aiming to provide stories for open-minded
people who enjoy living on the edge of their lives,
stepping out of comfort zones, going on adventure,
doing extreme sports and embracing the new.
Welcome to the too-much-energy-blog!

Me? A lunatic?
Nooooooooo
That's absurd!
end of sarcasm
Let's call each other names :-D
But there are no names left to use, surferbarley. :)
Oh that's right, I completely forgot about that! :-)
Hahahaha😂😂🤣🤣
It actually took me a while to understand this!
I think i love the lunatics club!
LOL!
And our slogan should be
"We bring tomorrow to today!"
What do you think @nonameslefttouse
😂😂
"We bring today, tomorrow!"
Said the procrastinator.
Hahahha😂🤣
You're good!
Ya good!
Same here! Exactly the same!
I've never been an early adopter anywhere. I had an iPhone 4 until a year ago (I went straight to 6, though :)) and I take ages to update the software on it. Why change something as long as it works well, right? ;)
And you know when I first heard of the Boomerang app?? Just now. From you! LOL
Isn't it weird that we've become sudden Lunatics with this whole crypto and blockchain thing, though? Why is that??
The only answer I have for that is that our inner guidance system goes into resonance so deeply with it, that all sensors go off DingDingDingDingDing - this is it!
I have never trusted anything as much as this, simply because it doesn't come from reason, but from intuition this time.
Here's to being a lunatic!! :D
I wouldn't have changed to the iPhone 5 back in 2014 if they hadn't stolen my iPhone 4 :-) It was the first and last time someone took the phone out of my bag while I was dancing in a club. Pretty negative experience, even though I got a new phone then.
Haha! I had seen these funny animations on Instagram but didn't know that it was an integrated feature. So today I accidentally stumbled upon it - the results are on the blockchain now :-)
I think the fascination for crypto is triggered by a couple of things such as:
Wholeheartedly! :-)
I believe it will change everything :)
If you've not see this yet, it's highly worth watching (instead of a movie some evening :)). He doesn't mention the word blockchain or crypto or whatever, he just talks about the "digital revolution". All of what he says resonates deeply with me.
Hahahaha :D A big shout out to all my fellow lunatics!
:-)
Welcome to the near era! To be honest, I am not quite sure where the cryptocurrencies gonna bring the world to. Is it a good thing or a bad one, only the time will show! :)
I never used boomerang, stories, etc by the way, but I don't consider myself to be a dinosaur though( not until this moment anyway)! :)
If I just started to learn other cryptos like a month ago have I achieved a Pterodactyls or Tyrannosaurus ranking yet? :) Have an inspiring week, crypto warrior Marly!
Haha, you're definitely one of the hipster dinosaurs then :-D
Thanks for your wishes! Enjoy your week, too, Luke!
The Lunatic Fringe sounds like a great punk rock band name.
Oldie
I know you're out there!!!!
LOL - cryptopunks though :-)
The lunatic fringe, lol! Were actually very sane; I think. We believe in free exchange of ideas on a decentralized system that doesn't censor ideas. The platform can have applications and functionality built on top of it. We can create economy that benefits everyone. This technology can usher in brighter future. If that is crazy, we're lunatic's then.:p
Well I believe that creating our own money is insane from a conservative point of view :-) Maybe we've spent so much time here that we don't see that anymore. Here's an example for you:
My tax consultant needed one hour to understand that the coins are just generated by themselves, haha. "No invoicing practice though... mmmh." It took him a while, lol
Very happy to be part of that "lunatic fringe" @surfermarly; seems there is almost infinite potential for this technology and approach to money.
In a sense, it is quite similar to the earliest days of the Internet where some of us were thought "just weird" for being part of something that was just for "hardcore nerds and universities." That was just a little more than 20 years ago, and who doesn't have Internet now?
Nicely said! When the internet became popular most people said it was the channel of arms dealers. Same is happening with cryptocurrencies now which are supposed to be drug dealers' money.
Reminds me of that one here:
Great post - lovr from a fellow luny! its so much fun being a luny - liek the lunatics that bought bitcoin in 2009!!!
Thank you!
Haha, luny... That's sweet :-)
A popular man in my country Nigeria did call people who dabble in this new world of crypto - the internet of money - gamblers.
LOL - i laugh at him, he doesn't see the potentials yet! Sometimes it still hurt me i didn't invest in Bitcoin!
We are the tide! We are revolutionizing the world!
In short, we are more than a tide, We are a tsunami! And we'll sweep them off their feet!
Well said :-)
Gamblers... ha! They should look at our wallets.
Hehehehe!
When they do, they'll immediately love "gambling"😂😂🤣🤣
When I joined Instagram I thought I should have joined 2 years before. Now with Steemit I think I've joined at just the right time. I'm looking forward to its future!
Thanks for keeping my excitement at a high level with your post!
You're definitely not too late in this case :-)
Thanks for your kind words and Steem on!
Terrific post @surfermarley
I have been seeing your works for a long time and now i am following you
@Sirknight my mentor wrote a post a long time ago about how he invested in steem and now he is a top gun in steemit and he is using it to help others
Crypto is the future and i will invest right here aa i plan on buying my house and nice car from steem/crypto money...hahahha
Thanks for your compliment!
There have been people buying cars from Steem already, so that's not an unrealistic dream :-)
Thanks @surfermarly
Crypto is the future and i will invest...thanks for the post
Great! Don't forget to include Steem in your portfolio :-)
Early adopters @surfermarly are definitely the pioneers and the ones who are at an advantage.
In crypto-currency it is so true that this is the internet of money and rightfully so it should be true, that those who joined in the beginning when the tide is so low anyone can reach but stayed to ride the "wave" all the way as it climbed, people are going to start to look at it as beneficial, from being there before the doubters or newcomers, they were smart enough to see the high tide coming, and . This is the best part for being apart of a community where people get to learn from those who did become apart of a wave early, so that they can hopefully see trends in how crypto people operate and then they can ride a wave of their own if they are early enough, they might catch one!
i know nothing except that steemit is a revolution and we are the early adopters on steemit and there is nothing like steemit which carries such huge potentials and due to this region steem coin is daamn powerful and it is one of the most best coins to invest in.......
upvoted
I joined here in December 2017 and feel that I was late coming to the smorgasbord that is Steemit!
Glad to read that this is not the case having missed so many opportunities in my life.
:)
Cheery rallying post ~ thanks.
Your energy is infectious.
xox
(please pop by mine if you have a mo for a quick browse ~ you may find something to float your board!)
you are not alone, we are early in this. and lets build our comunnity
You're definitely not too late :-)
how did you find out about steem? great article 👍.
Thank you! A friend of mine introduced me in July 2016.
"I was one of those who believed in blockchain and crypto"-me from the future.Cheers to all of us on steemit!!
We schould send memos to ourselves :-)
very nice post thanks for sharing... you r so pretty..
It is also great to be here early to find all the unique people like yourself, before possibly being lost in the sure to be coming flood of new users. I look forward to seeing your posts. Have a great day. RESPECT
I wish some people would see the future of crpto, they would have a different perspective about it.
Crypto has come to stay and change the world
Thanks for the info
Crypto world is changing day by day but yes we are the pioneers of the steemit. May be i don't have any right to say it as i am not that worthy but you are so deserving to say this because you have been doing really great since you joined this superb platform Marly <3 <3
Well we get what we give I'd say. The re in rewards means that we get something in re turn. The more you contribute, the higher the reward.
So motivational and kind words i am really blessed that i found helping Authors like you who always support and guide me, Massive respect for you :)
Nice post @surfermarly! You look so pretty.
You are so lucky to be among the early adopters, most times I still blame myself for taking these things lightly.
To say the truth, anybody who still opens His/Her mouth to say awkward things bout crytocurrency is so wrong.
this is the future of social network, get paid to have fun,. how come not everyone is in on it?
It will take time to move from old facebookesque platforms...also there's all this FUD everywhere that says that bitcoin is for criminals and dangerous people and all is a bubble and bla bla bla...we just need time!
Hopefully you are right! However I think steemit is not made for everyone...some of my friends were discouraged for not getting views...some others are too lazy to write :D I like your posts so much anyway! thanks!
How much time did your friends spend on the platform until getting disappointed? I needed 4-5 months until I started earning some real money for my blog posts. People generally don't have enough patience, that's what impeeds them to succeed mostly :-)
Btw: besides Steemit.com there are a lot of other applications built on the Steem blockchain where you can monetize any type of content (not only text): Steepshot for pictures (like Instagram), DTube for videos (like YouTube) for instance.
They did not spend enough time or maybe they just want to have instant money or maybe they don't have anything to say :) I told many travel bloggers which I know, but they are too focused in old social media efforts. They won't be early adopters!
I knew those apps, they are great, I would also add dmania, which is fun for memes!
People don't like change :-) They'll surely come back when we have 1 Mio+ users - and will regret not having stayed though.
Hahaha. Discovering boomerang cracked me up! I am also a self confessed tech dinosaur and also a raving lunatic.
Awesome! So we're already three boomerang-noobs in this thread including @connecteconomy :-)
I just recently found out about this site but I really think it could take off and if that makes me a lunatic then so be it :D
Good post, please follow back friend
I'd say anyone who joined recently is in the early majority, judging by the way steem distribution worked and looking at the two price spikes, the true early adopters already have had their chance to obtain most of the marketshare.
I stumbled onto Steemit, too. One of the key things that got me -- and keeps me -- interested is being part of the evolution of this blockchain ecosystem. First for the Steem ecosystem -- the whitepaper did such a good job in laying out a commitment to change and adaptation, along with a plan to stay on track. But then, piece by piece, for the evolution of the larger cryptocurrency ecosystem. I'll never understand or be able to keep up with all of it. But it's courtside seats at the arena! I just have to stay alert for the errant ball and players crashing over the sidelines, lol. And I have discovered my niche (foraging wild plants and mushrooms) - a lunatic's lunatic. I'm working on the conquering! :D
I have always been on the lunatic fringe, the only problem was that I did not believe in myself against the tide of the masses. It has taken me half a lifetime to realize that I should just trust my instincts regardless of what the mainstream herd says. So, now I am on Steem and promote on all other social media platforms that I am a part of.
xoxo
Peace

Im sure there will be more to come
As a proponent of emerging technology, I agree to this statement 100%. But it seems like I'm kindda a late adopter. I really hope I catch up :)
Hi guys, can you check my blog article about futuristic smartphones and tell me if there is a need for improvement?
I must confess, at first I felt the steem system was for mediocrity and time wasters but after joining this platform and reading through well organised post like this, I mean that kind of post that you need to read patiently to understand then you I want to agree and concur that you must be intelligently psyco to excel here.
I'm still astonished at how often I tell people about a social media site that pays you to post, only for them to say "oh that's cool" and not even have any questions about it
Their loss
Hahah awesome that you discovered boomerang! It’s such a fun app. :-)
Loved your description of the lunatic phase. I have to admit, I definitely related to it. I never really gave much thought to crypto currency before, even though my boyfriend kept telling me I should check it out. (He’s been investing in crypto for years) When he showed me Steemit, things finally started to click. Now I literally have put all of my savings into different alt coins and spend hours every day making posts for Steemit!
Definitely a crazy turn of events. So grateful to be part of the lunatic phase with the rest of you crazy people. 😆
I regret already that I have not found time for steemit when I first found it :(
But I agree with what You said.
And also the "brand new" instagram boomerang LOLOLOL got me laughing so hard.... Love it. And glad to see that now You are one of the cool kids ehehhe :P
Is it a coincidence that lunatic has the root word meaning moon? I think not! We’re on a rocket powered by Steem
Nice post. Steem will for sure make early folks rich or can. I just joined this week and I already can not believe the money on here. I do not have a big following and get few upvotes. But even just the little bit of growth I do see is crazy.
I am planing on making Dtube a big part of my steem blog.
The learning curve will for sure hold the masses back. Soon there will be many people teaching and posting how to videos and post on the best ways to get on and earn form the plate form.
Again great post. New follower and I will resteem this one :)
Good jop friend
This post has made me even more excited about having just joined this amazing community yesterday! :D
Beautiful...... Dont forget follow and vote me
It feels SOOO good to have just become part of this incredible movement... So grateful right now!
Thanks for this awesome post that got me even more excited!
Keep up the great work!
With love

Thanks for sharing your message of positivity! Yes, I believe all Steem early adopters are helping to build something truly special.
heyhey! @surfermarly
great post!! I think you're the first surfer I saw here! I'm a surfer too! keep it up cheers 🤙🏾
come check out my stuff too, you might like it! :D
It takes one to know one lol
Marly, I resemble that remark. I'm definitely on the lunatic fringe!
I've begun exchanging Steem for fiat, and trying to encourage others to "Be the Exchange" they want to see. I've also begun actually using Steem for purchases, and have begun accepting Steem for SILVERengines products.
So far, it's all been "informal" and very personal, doing those exchanges back and forth with people who I've gotten to know here on Steemit. But I'm working on some banners and writing a series about this. Hope to post the newest in the series tonight or tomorrow, with a list of earlier articles.
I'm also working on a new banner--here's an early version of it:
Be sure to stay tuned for new and improved versions... ;)
Yes, we are the lunatic fringe, and glad of it! Aren't you glad? Oh, and watch out for me, sweetie... I'm also one of those "anti-government people" -- but you don't need to be afraid... ;)
There's an entire brave new world out there for us. We just need to take off and ride this wave! ;)
😄😇😄
I love your positiviy and spirit!
It's great to know that you're actively including Steem in your business activities. Great example!
I'm actually not afraid of this movement, just careful. The opportunity to earn huge amounts of money always attracts scam, so what we need to do is keeping people with bad intentions out of the game. Only a peaceful and professional approach will make this become a success. That's at least my point of view :-)
I'm also not "anti-government", I'm just "pro-new-world" :-)
Thanks, Marly... Nice to hear from you. :D
I am definitely pro-new-world also... Because all human governments as we presently know them use force to accomplish their ends. That is why I oppose them. I would welcome a society that would just leave me alone... but I have yet to see any "government" willing to do that. ;)
The lunatic fringe! hahaha! I'm glad all the "crazy's" are finally coming together ;) Bring on the future!
