What is Ocean Protocol?
Ocean Protocol is a decentralized data exchange protocol that lets people share and monetize data while guaranteeing control, auditability, transparency and compliance to all actors involved.

Project Description
There are many companies in the world that have a considerable amount of data, but do not have the means to maximize it and make it available to the world. At the moment, only about 1% of the data in the world is being analyzed, and this hinders the development of Artificial Intelligence (the most effective data analysis tool).
Conversely, there are lots of new startups that have perfected the act extracting value from data using AI. So, there is demand and there is supply, the only thing missing is a marketplace for both parties to meet, a network of some sort that will connect the owners of data with the people who will help them make their data valuable (and available to the world). Ocean Protocol wants to bridge the disconnect and be that marketplace.
Ocean Protocol plans to create a private and secure network that will make it convenient for both sides to trade data while retaining control. In doing so, they hope to eradicate the risks posed by centralized data exchanges, and give both parties (the suppliers and the data analysts) a potential for exponential growth.
Ocean Protocol is built with DEX, ascribe.io, BigchainDB and IPDB, ergo, it has a solid business basis
The token, OCN, will be the means of exchange on the network. Users earn tokens when they sell data, provide network services (validation and verification services), and/or make public data accessible. OCN is minable and 50% of block reward tokens will be emitted in 10 years.
Hard Cap and Valuation
OCN will have a hard cap of 1.41 billion tokens. The target for the Pre-Launch is €18M for 15% of the tokens, 45% of the tokens are earmarked for network keepers and data providers (minted block reward), while 20% goes to the founding team. The Ocean Protocol foundation gets 10%, and the final 10% is to be withheld for a secondary offering within the next 5 years. Tokens are released on network launch and at this point, 60% of the total OCN will be available.
Important Dates
The network will most likely be launched sometime in the fourth quarter of 2018, however, there is no information on the token sale date as at the time of this publication.
