I just figured out how crypto currency based gaming can work. (Without being pay to win)

How do you make a game that is based on crypto currency not be a pay to win model?

This is one of the biggest problems I have had with this entire concept. I have struggled endlessly to think about how you can make a game like this not be completely unbalanced for people with lots of spare cash. I think I just realized how and its actually quite simple.

If the entire game is about how much you earn vs how much you spend then that is the measurement of who are the top players. So if the goal is to profit from the game then it is the exact opposite of pay to win.

Your score is when you manage to get in the green vs being in the red. If your characters strength and attributes are based on how in the green you are then you put the player in a situation where they will pay as little as possible to get the initial gear and items necessary to accomplish the most possible with those assets. If you buy a bunch of crypto and bring it into your game wallet it will weaken your character but give you access to items and resources. You have to constantly try to find the sweet spot on where you spend the least amount possible in order to earn as much as possible. You can then choose to cash out some of your winnings or leave them in your character to get stronger to complete harder content.

In other words, imagine an RPG where the world currency is based on crypto. If you try to play the game spending the least amount possible then the game will be a lot harsher. A really skilled player might be able to make the game work with a fresh naked character and get into the green more quickly.

But most players will want to roll a character with some starting items. If you spend 3-5 dollars you will be able to buy gear and starting items right away. Money spent on the game goes into the reward pool. Playing the game by completing content and such can reward you. The more currency you earn the stronger your character gets. The more currency you bring into game the longer it will take to level up and get stronger.

Money you gain from the game increases your experience points. Money brought in from the outside slows down your exp gain. Bring too much money into the game and you will likely take 100x longer to get stronger.

failing to accomplish things, death, failure or not keeping your characters gear repaired essentially causes your character to lose experience points because you will have to bring in money from the outside to maintain the character.

With this mindset then you don't even need the game to have a core crypto currency at its heart. You can take any currency you want then build the game around that concept.

I needed to jot this down for future reference. But I think I have the idea. I just need to go over it more. I think this is it. This is one solid potential vector for gaming based on crypto currency.

Pretty interesting idea, Castle.

There are some devils in the detail I think. There is bound to be a perfect level, where you win the most by paying the least and the perfect level of progressing the fastest (what do I have to pay to win most - level)

As a dev you would either have to very consciously set those levels or have them occur randomly. The latter is quite dangerous I think.

All in all this still sounds like a very fresh approach with a lot of potential. I would help you crunch some numbers if you wanna develop the idea further.

Yeah it will require a lot of planning and thinking to get all of the details in place. I may consider making a prototype once I complete Revulsion Episode 2 content.

Your logic seems valid. I hope something of this sort turns out in the future, whether it be this model or one like it. It could help the cryptocurrency market gain practicality.

Hm, I feel like making a profit will be a by-product of the game rather than the aim. The game will obviously still be pushing towards an end state with skill based challenges. Or multiplayer will simply have its aim of pitting your skills against other.

While those exist, the crypto mechanic will act like a short cut and then you've got pay 2 win still. There will be many people whose main driver won't be to end up with a profit, simply to win.

While those exist, the crypto mechanic will act like a short cut and then you've got pay 2 win still.

You cant shortcut with this design. Your level of your character is tied directly to your profit margin. The more money you spend on the character the lower your profit margin will be thus spending money reduces you characters level. And harder content requires that you you have higher level (profit margin)

Your success is directly tied to how much money you make from the game.

i think a crypto trading game would be huge.you can always make some money putting it onlive and making it live with a world ranking system.
I play in an online casino but it doesn't pay real $ and so does 20 million others.
IF U BUILD IT THEY WILL COME....lol

This sounds awesome!

I think we really need a blockchain based game to help get kids more accustomed to cryptos, in the same way Steemit did this for bloggers.

Yep! This would be a pretty brutal game though. I don't see crypto games being kid friendly as they will tend to be extremely unforgiving. If a game like this were to include pvp then it would be nothing short of hardcore.

I was looking at a card game called Spells of Genesis that is built on Bitcrystals. So, I handed it over to my nephew for his opinion and after a few minutes he said that he didn't like it. Iam not sure if one opinion means much, but even if that game is not that good, it could be that another card game might draw kids in.

Great article. Block chain is truly the future of technology. Games is a really good idea to utilize block chain technology. Passionate people will enjoy some perks along with keeping up with their passion.

wow good idea if you getting success to this idea, tell me 1st.i will like to play that game from which i can earn cryptocurrency.

how do you think or your prediction about bitcoin price in 2018 whether it will be increasing or going down.
I just want to survey some people's opinions
