Check the Rating of your selected ICO on various popular websites to know more about that ICO and it's product.

Yeah, you are right my friend, although I Only are great options at finding some of underdog coins - coin which can multiply your investment by more than 100 times, there is also risk of having fake and spam ICO, only after doing sufficient research, one should invest in it.
