Bitcoin will transform into a completely different animal over the next 10 years...
I keep hearing people say that this coin and that coin is going to replace Bitcoin. Their reason's vary from this coin is faster or that coin is more secure or this coin does this and Bitcoin doesn't. Segwit has been activated today and it has been proven to the world that the Bitcoin software can be updated.
Bitcoin is the first cryptocurrency every created and it is the face and brand of cryptocurrencies... loved and recognized by all. There is no doubt that the Bitcoin software will be updated many more times over the next 10 years. It will become faster, it will become more secure, it will no doubt have many additional features. This is the reason why Bitcoin isn't going to be replaced by any other coin. It will become the best, and will remain first and most loved crypto... just to clear up a little confusion :D
I like to think that too. But when you delve deeper into the political infighting and motivations of each faction within the Bitcoin community... well... I am not so sure anymore what to think. There are arguments on both side that make sense to me, but I lack expertise to really be able to prioritize and be able to make a good choice. So far I have relied on the advice of newsoutlets and other experts in supporting Segwit2x, but now I am not so sure. It turns out Segwit by itself already increases blocksize to 2mb, and Segwit2x as proposed is actually more like a 4mb blocksize. And the aggressive marketing and censorship that's going around certainly does not inspire faith. Not to mention that the Bitcoin core developers, the ones who are kind of the most closely related to Satoshi himself, aren't supporting Segwit2x.
I just don't know. So for this reason, I am glad to be mostly in altcoins instead of Bitcoin(s).
There is still political infighting but I think Bitcoin will split more times in the future and these factions will move away from Bitcoin, just like we did with Bitcoin Cash. Yeah the Bitcoin Core developers do not wish to alter the blocksize limit at all as they believe it will potentially create security risks. Hopefully we will know if this is the case or not by watching Bitcoin Cash over the next few months. I guess spreading your portfolio is king, only keep a portion of your wealth in crypto and only keep a portion of that in each coin. I'm going to follow you @pandorasbox you know your crypto's :D
Thanks @unbeaten! I'll give you a follow back! (nm, I was already following, haha)
And yes, I am sure Bitcoin (or one of them) will survive. In the end, I am in altcoins not because I want altcoins.. but primarily because I want more bitcoin!
Thanks haha. Same here, I think you can make a killing on altcoins if you pick the right ones. I'm ploughing into buying Steem at the moment, it's been under the radar for quite some time now and think it's due a huge rise anytime soon. But don't tell anyone just yet, I need to buy more :D
bitcoin is here to stay!!!
For sure!
