We’re now over one year into the ten-year timeline Dr Guy McPherson predicts humans have left on planet earth.
"I can't imagine there will be a human on the planet in 10 years".
Dr McPherson, Professor Emeritus of Natural Resources and Ecology & Evolutionary Biology at the University of Arizona, was interviewed by New Zealand show Newshub in November 2016 and is quoted as saying "I can't imagine there will be a human on the planet in 10 years".
Dr McPherson, who claims he has no children because he’s been aware of our predicament for quite some time, says we’re heading for a temperature within 10 years, higher than any in the last two billion years. That’s a B for billion folks, and our planet is only 4.5 Billion years old.
When asked what he would say in defence of criticism from other experts, those that may say he is wrong or suggest we have more time, he explains that as we are a society of specialisation, you have experts studying their individual parts of the puzzle, but no one is adding up all the feedback loops we’re setting in place.
hoping leads to inaction, inaction foments fear, and fear paralyses.
McPherson also states that he thinks “hope” is a terrible idea.
And I believe this, out of all his eccentric statements, is probably the best one I’ve read or heard, for hoping leads to inaction, inaction foments fear, and fear paralyses.
And this is the state many of our fellow humans are in, paralysed, scared to death and scared to look, heads buried in the sand like the figurative Emu.
For whatever you think of Dr McPherson and his outlandish predictions, even a layman can take a high-level view of the picture and see reality; huge population growth, increasing standards of living stressing resources, finite water and fossil fuels, pollution, shrinking forests, a warming planet, antibiotic resistance and adding to all of that, an extreme imbalance of wealth being focused in the hands of and benefiting so few… with all of this you have what looks like a very very bleak future.
But it’s not all doom and gloom.
Here on Steemit, we have a community, of what I imagine to be, the progressives and early adopters. Realists ready to act, daring to do, contributing to a new global monetary system through crypto, engaging with new technologies and new ways to organise society outside of the control of the “controllers”.
The proposition is, we start a discussion forum on Steemit, on how our crypto community can work together to create a movement for positive change and awareness.
I know there’ll be some blow back from the community, and in advance of any arguments you intend to put forward attempting to debunk climate change as reality, please take a moment to view this awesome website.
And as a parting thought...consider this, the few scientists out of step with the majority, those denying the reality of climate change, could it not be the case that they are the agents of disinformation, the puppets of the puppeteers sowing seeds of division in order to weaken the resolve of society at act as one?
