RE: My Gulden (NLG) Investment - Did I Make The Right Choice?

in #cryptocurrency8 years ago (edited)

NLG is a smaller coin that exists for some time already. They were one of the first groups in those dark 2014-2015 days of BTC price depression that did not simply abandoned the 700th Bitcoin-clone, but actively developed their coin, marketed it and polished the surrounding infrastructure. Their mobile wallets were excellent in a time that most coins did not have mobile wallets or a clone of the mobile Bitcoin Wallet.

I had some dealings with NLG when they had the campaign of 'Kwartje van Kok terug'. The 'Kwartje van Kok' is a reference to a temporary Dutch tax on gasoline initiated by a Dutch politician Wim Kok. The tax was NLG 0.25 (25 cents) in 1991.

This tax was never temporary and not given back to the people (this is still debated, although the majority opinion tends to agree).

The NLG team took this one as an opportunity (the ' Kwartje van Kok' is still lively remembered by Dutch people) to make in the centre of a Guldencoin marketing campaign. With the backing of an NLG-donor (or donors), they offered Guldencoins for each litre of fuel tanked, proved by uploading a scan/photo of the receipt. I obtained some Guldencoin at the time. It was not much, but we still have some pride in our old Gulden (the Dutch currency before the Euro was introduced).

At some point, this campaign started to linger and I have not been following Guldencoin for some time. However, if you look at the main thread at Bitcointalk, it is easy to see that this coin is still rolling with enthusiastic developers. I do not have numbers but The Netherlands is a very Internet connected and technology minded country. Second, it is wealthy enough for people to jump into brave and risky adventures and Guldencoin is one of them.

I do not endorse Guldencoin and have not connection with its developers. But it makes be proud to see what these guys have achieved and are still planning to achieve. Calling Guldencoin a scam does not give the team proper credits for what they have done.

My advice: just HODL and don't check prices everyday.

Thank you very much for the response! To be honest I had never heard of Kwartje van Kok. Must be because I'm still pretty young.

Thanks for the advice. I will do that, but it's hard to not check the price every day haha
