I have been an ardent follower of blockchain, cryptocurrrencies and crypto powered projects for about 3 years now, and there’s this unique, ground breaking project, that aims to create robust socialsselling platform that will make social selling more accessible for retailers and sellers worldwide.
SOCIAL SELLING
The art of using social networks as a tool to locate and directly interact with prospects and customers is what is generally referred to as social selling. If you want to find out about the first social sellers, you might have to go back to early in the 1900’s, when Brands hired independent representatives or sellers to go door by door and sell their products; this method helped thanks to its one-to-one demonstrations. With the adoption of the internetwork technolog, social sellers have unlimited power within the market through on-line avenues, particularly in the reaching the social media users.
CHALLENGES FACING THE SOCIAL SELLING SPHERE
Less Control: The social selling industry transaction is mainly monopolized by a few merchants, and middlemen’s. They make it difficult for sellers to have access to the customer’s transaction data. The today social selling industry the big giants control the sellers.
Cornered Market : The big brands limit new sellers from entering the market. This is because the system needed to function as customers support; rewards and commission limit the new merchants from entering the market. This gives the Giants even more opportunity to expand more and corner the whole market. The sellers, in summary, are unable to compete with this incumbents brand in the social selling industry.
GEMSTRA
Gemstra established “BOUTIQUES” in July 2017 which provided solution to the sellers to the choose the brands and products of their preference. Around three thousand sellers, and eight brands adopted this platform. This provided the needed information and vision to further develop the solution, using the insight provided by the "BOUTIQUES" innovation; thus developing the GEMSTRA platform. The platform ASTRA which is based on blockchain technology enables the seller to keep the information of customers and network data and brands and merchants can interact with each other. This platform permits brands to integrate their catalogue with multiple merchants over the platform.
The Gemstra platform provides wallet to every merchant, seller and brand so that the transaction can happen quickly through wallet to wallet. Brand will decide the custom commission for the merchant that it will partner with. Sellers are free to choose the merchants based on the brand they are partnered with. Sellers also has governance over the customer information which they collect.
THE ASTRA AND GEMSTRA CONNECTION
Gemstra will work on the ASTRA platform, a technological infrastructure used by retailers and brands as a way to integrate with and build a social selling channel; it’s often seen as the solution to democratise the model to promote equity between sellers, retailers, and brands. With the use of the ASTRA platform, it would solve captivity issues; it liberates social selling by leveraging the blockchain to store data, processing every action involved with transactions, and decentralizing its control. When retailers and brands use ASTRA, they will be able to participate in social selling and gain benefits from all their user-friendly protocols. With the use of ASTRA and their GMS Token, it would be the first time that someone connects retail brands and social selling, allowing sellers to represent any variety of brands and let those retail brands to grow and even compete with bigger brands.
BENEFICIARIES OF THE GEMSTRA ECOSYSTEM
BRANDS: Brands in the ecosystem are allowed to partner with any Merchant integrated with the Astra Platform. Brands can be sold at multiple Businesses and access different networks of Influencers/KOLs.
BUSINESSES: Retailers can integrate with Astra as “Businesses” making use of the platform's SDK or open source software (powering the Boutiques marketplace). Each Merchant hosts a peculiar network of Influencers/KOLs and administers its own set of Brands.

The only token that will be used for exchange and store of value on the GEMSTRA platform is called GMS, and no longer the GEMS. GMS tokens will be used on the ASTRA platform to carry out the transactions and it will also be used for rewarding the users. GMS will be utilized for the buying and transaction between merchants and sellers. This can also be used for commissions and customized rewards on the platform. This token will make the social selling industry decentralized by creating an open market for everyone and not for big brands alone.
