I recently started playing cryptokitties and as a fellow newbie myself I thought I would share some information that I have found to be very helpful, as well as offer a free cryptokitty to one lucky winner!
The Basics
the first thing you will learn is that the lower the generation number your kitty is, the more valuable it is. This is partially because new born kittens of lower generation are born with a faster breeding cool down than kittens of higher generations. This is a huge factor for things such as fancy breeding.
What is fancy breeding?
There are some combinations of genes that when dominant in your kitty the artwork will change to something completely different and special but only a limited number will be made this way and when that limit is reached the normal artwork will return for those genes.
Here are pictures of just some of the fancy cats:
Because there will be a limited number of these made (each fancy has a different limit) then players are breeding them against a ticking clock. The cooldown per breed is a huge factor in this.
For example, if you have 2 cats for breeding a fancy but they are gen 22 then you must wait 2 days between the 1st breed and 2nd, and then 4 days between the 2nd breed and the 3rd. Considering some breeds fail to produce the genes needed for a fancy, you have less time to try to make your fancy, or less time to make multiple fancies before the limit is up!
You can now see why the lower generations are more desirable.
