Hey guys!
I went to the Gem Faire in Del Mar on Friday! It was my first time, and while it wasn't exactly what I expected, I had a blast and I got some good deals on some stones (hopefully).
I haven't posted about my cement pots in awhile because I've been working on the "other" stuff. Marketing, networking, you know, the actual business side of things. Not exactly post-worthy, in my opinion. Anyways. As much of a planner as I am in every other aspect of life, I am REALLY impulsive when it comes to creating. As soon as I get the idea, I need to drop everything and try it. And here's where my lack of patience rears its ugly head. I've got a closet full of half used art supplies, and maaaaybe just a few untouched ones, too, because if I don't get it in my hands instantly, I lose the inspiration and creativity. I've probably already moved on to something else, too.
Since I came up with this idea of incorporating of crystals into my pots quite some time ago, it's been a struggle keeping the ideas fresh in my mind while waiting for the fair. I HAD a plan, a shopping list and knew exactly what I was looking for. Until I got there. Early, of course, because I do not get along well with crowds and the first two hours was for people with a resale license only. As soon as I saw all the sparkles, I forgot about my plan, fucked the budget I never really had and went to town just looking for colors I knew I needed.
Out of all the lovely booths I visited, only one was kind enough to include these info cards with each stone I bought, and packaged them separately so I couldn't possibly mix them up. YAY.
As for the rest of them - I could use some help identifying! My plan for the pots is to create a Chakra line and personalized healing pots that hold specific crystals and stones based on their properties. Sooo, yeah. Pretty important I get them correctly tagged.
I call this one Willy Wonka's Everlasting Gobstopper. Reminds me of the one from the original movie.
I recall the guy saying something like Red Quartz. Could the name be that generic? Doesn't look red to me either, but it fulfills that color range I was looking for...
Are these next two the same? I kept forgetting what I bought, and the really challenging part for me is I'm a little color blind! Red/Green deficiency so I'm never confident on color comparisons.
Case in point. The next shot is my BLUE choice. When I bought them, they were blue. Outside, they look blue. When I took the photo, they were still blue. But now that I look at this uploaded photo, I cant tell anymore. And it looks like the two on the left arent even the same specimen anymore.
Good thing I got a few more "blues". The middle one is blue lace agate. I'm 87% sure.
Yellow/Orange:
Black. This feels like the green kyanite, so thats my guess.
And these are amethyst and clear quartz, but there is no way I can even begin to guess where from:
Next time Ill be sure to write down what each piece is, and keep it wrapped with them until I need them! Oh, and I paid exactly $99 for all these goodies. Good deal or good steal (on the vendors part from my wallet)?
Thank you for your help, friends!

Awesome post! I have always collected gems and crystals that I find on the ground, but never anything as pretty as these ones. Thank you for sharing.
I wish I were lucky enough to find them on the ground! @rt395 is the expert, hopefully he can train my eyes to find beauties not already polished and on a table for me, LOL.
These are lovely, I need to start collecting some :)
thank you! i had a blast looking at some of the more expensive, statement pieces. I saw a few that would have taken up my whole coffee table! amazing, arent they?
Wow, you did go wild. FYI We can find most of those gemstones here in Cali.
The gobstoppers are Argonite from Morocco. Love them.
Red & orange quartz, yes there is red and orange quartz.
The yellow/orange after the blue lace is probably calcite.
Black is most likely Schorl, black tourmaline. All over So.Cal. Check this out, http://wheretofindrocks.com/collecting-minerals-from-cross-hill-nuevo-california/
I've gotten garnets and tons of black tourmaline there. Two friends have found aqua and golden beryl.
As far as good deal goes, I guess it depends on what you plan to do with them. The "Gem Faire" or should I say Beads Faire, is not the best place for picking up gems & minerals. The best places are the local rock club shows. Most of the dealers at those shows are rock hounds and collectors and have good deals.
Since you guys are where you are check out http://www.palagems.com Owner is world renowned Bill Larson. The Pala Mining district stretching all the way out to Lake Henshaw still has a lot of gemstones buried underground. I actually found some tourmaline in the wash near Pala Casino.
I'd really love to take you guys out hunting when I get back from Japan. Maybe early May.
I have been searching the internet for little gems such as that post you linked me to - thank you! Most posts I find are telling people that its over, the location has been picked through. I'm always down for an adventure though, and I have no problem telling people public roads are free for me to travel on, haha. YES. You said it exactly, the BEAD fair. If I were a meditation bead necklace maker, it would have been perfect, lol. The mark-up on jewelry is incredible though, maybe I'm in the wrong business....Ive passed that place numerous times, but with the FINE JEWELRY sign outside, I always figured it wasnt for me. We are definitely in for a hunting trip when you're back, our schedule is pretty flexible so May or whenever sounds good! I'm really looking forward to learning more from you. Ive heard that if the pretty rocks at the farm we work at had another 100,000 years to form they would have been amazing. I've always been drawn to collecting pretty rocks, but Id love to find something really special. Just once! Doesnt have to be valuable, just...special. :D Safe travels!
Oh man, you got all kinds of cool rocks there!! @rt395 is the guy to ask about the different minerals and how much they might be worth. He knows all that kinda stuff. I sent the link to him so he'll for sure see this.
thanks for spreading the word! I cant wait to go hunting for them myself :D
Well done getting out and about. Del Mar Fair grounds has some very cool things happening there on a fairly regular basis. Plus, obviously, lots of rocks. :-))
Ive got to make it out to one of those summer concerts they have. I learned a trick, go to the last race for $6 and then hang out for the live concert after and save money on your entrance. LOL.
Well....March31, 10-5 @ La Mesa"s Griffin Park: Blues Harp Fest. They have a contest, so bring your harmonica.
I dont have a harmonica, but that looks awesome. Just checked out some youtube videos from years past to listen. Shall we make another meet up for the 31st at Harp Fest???
I've gone a few times. Very nice and casual. Bring a chair, a hat, something to drink. They do have food there. And, get there early - parking can get to be challenging. Yeah, just let people know and see who comes. Cool. :-))
Im also a fan of bluegrass jams. There used to be a dive bar in NYC where anyone could bring any instrument and everyone in the bar just played together along with the band.
I didnt know you were into crystals too!! Damn girl you my spirit animal lol the ones that are in the middle look like raw flourite.
Ive always been interested in pretty rocks, but this is my first time actually buying, lol. Im trying to incorporate them into the cement pots....healing planters :D Do you have any favorite crystals?
Sure I love lapis lazuli for healing, clear quartz is good for everything, pink quartz is good for love and romance, black tourmaline for protection, jade for abundance.
I need to find some lapis lazuli - Ive heard it a bunch and now I want it hahaha.
Do a post about the meetup. Lots of pics on discord in the San Diego channel. There is a chance for a good upvote from the sandbx people. Tell me when you have done it and I recommend it.
