The Sights Of Issan. . .
Yesterday I went on a little 40 km (25 mile) ride on the motorbike. Going no place in particular, just looking around.
I went through several small villages and almost every one had a Wat (Buddhist Temple). Today I thought why not go back, stop at a few, and grab some photo's. So I did!
This might become a 'feature' I do to showcase the unique architecture they have if anyone is interested. Some are quite impressive! And going to them is something I enjoy.
I don't read Thai (and Google translate only gets you close), so unless the name is in English as well, I don't have a clue! But let's take a look, shall we?
Cue The Chanting In The Background . . .
This one, in particular, caught my attention because it is white, which is unusual. The stark absence of color brings an almost reverent serenity to the compound.
The gold accent on the alabaster Buddha and protective serpents and the colorful surrounding tile is the only highlight of color. This is located in:

And The Next One Is . . .
Although this is only used for ordination of new monks and seclusion for their meditation, it shows the more traditional aspect of ornate carvings and vivid colors.
Something must have happened here as they are building a new temple in the compound.
And of course, Buddha looks over everything.
Buddhist are cremated. After a lengthy process that can take 100 days or longer, they are brought to the Wat to be with Buddha.
Depending on the stature of the person in the community, and how much money the family has, they may be placed in a shrine like these. The larger and more ornate they are signifies the position.
Those whose family has less are placed into a wall resembling the mausoleums seen in other religions/places. I'll try to get a photo at some point in my travels.
This is in the village of:
Are You Done Yet . . .
Yes! Lol
I know, a little long. I will narrow down the scope in the future. I just got this Samsung S23 Ultra, and still trying to figure out the camera. So please be patient, it will get better!
Also let me know in the comments if you found this interesting. Thanks!
