The Power of a 3 x 5

The Power of a....png

I've been a student of personal development and success thinking for more than a decade now. And while I admit a lot of it is fluff, the more I read and soak up great information, the more my journey has blossomed...

Today I want to share with you a story (and a whole lot of pictures...lol) about a trick I learned from reading and learning from some of the great thought leaders on personal development, leadership and success...

And it all starts in this box...

IMG_1192.jpg

In that box contains about a hundred or more quotes, pictures, doodles, thoughts and scribbles...

On 3 x 5 index cards.

Like you have guessed by now, I read a lot. And try to soak up as much information as I can...The problem is, I forget a lot of it. So I'll end up writing the bulk of what I learned in my journals...But sometimes, a lesson 'hits me'...

IMG_1191.jpg

(A handful of my index cards...I have a LOT!)

And some of these quotes and lessons I learn are the things I want to remember forever!

So they deserve their own...Index card ;)

IMG_1189.jpg

(A gem from The End of Procrastination by Petr Ludwig - One of the better books I've ever read!)

And because they are organized within the box beside my desk, I can quickly scan them when I need a bit of inspiration.

Or maybe when I'm getting writer's block while trying to come up with a topic to write about...

Maybe if I need a good idea or two for my business...

The possibilities are endless with my 'stash of nuggets'!

IMG_1187.jpg

And yes, before you ask....

I've got all kinds of ways of keeping these 'nuggets' treasured forever...Which includes...

IMG_1190.jpg

Laminating them!

(Big shout out to the CTP Swarm and @CaptainBob - You knew I wouldn't let you down ;))

Yeah index cards are a fantastic way to 'treasure' the quotes and ideas you want to remember for a long time.

And stashing them in a handy little 'storage box' helps keep them at arms length when you are looking for a jolt of motivation or inspiration...

Sometimes, I even create little 'stories' with the index cards which I've been known to use in presentations on our weekly webinars...What can I say, I'm one creative cookie :)

IMG_1185.jpg

Ultimately, this is just a little trick and technique that I've been doing for years...So I have no guarantee that if you try it, you'll achieve great things...Who knows if this stuff works LOL

But I know this...I absolutely LOVE it.

I love soaking up the information first, but then taking these ideas and putting them into practice.

For me, that is the greatest 'result' I could ever have...Actually using the information I'm learning!

So if you wanna try the 'Power of a 3 x 5', just go to your local business store, Wal-Mart or what not...

  • Grab a stack of 3 x 5 index cards
  • A storage box to hold them
  • Some great pens to write down these ideas and gems

It's a ton of fun and heck, sometimes you start believing this stuff and end up quoting yourself ;)

You know what... You are a weird guy, Jon G Olson... 🙂

Joking... I love the idea of 3x5, but I'm lazy about those things... I like to bump on them from my friends on Facebook, Hive, Twitter, or YOU with this post... It looks like a random thing, but, actually, it isn't...

I have put YOU and my other friends in my follower list and you ALL are in my 3x5 storage box... :)

Thanks for that!!!

lol Glad to hear I'm included man lol

Oh man...Lazy? You are far from it...But in case you need a kick in the butt, I'll send @elianaicgomes over to ya lol

No, thank you... If I listen to her and go in fireshopping, no gimbal for me... :)

ha ha ha ha ha True story

Great idea! I use 3x5 cards when I am studying for a test. They have always been the most effective way for me to remember something. The visual of the card in my head just seems to stick.

Oh man I hear you! I have these writing out and it really helps me retain the info...Much more than any other technique I've tried.

There is no day I will not read your post that I will not have something to learn man
You are inspiring

Awesome to hear it sir. Thanks very much and glad to hear you are getting value from them!

Read, note and apply leads to way of success .

Agreed :)

WOW. who know.
Several years back, I attended a mastermind course and one tool was 3 x 5 cards.
Loved them.
affirmations, accomplishments, goals in the present tense, quotes from books, movie quotes, bible verses, everything mixed in so the mind can be influenced
really helped me get and stay focused throughout the day.
Time to pull them back out and get to creating.

Yeah man, it's amazing and really works.

I fell in love with it a few years ago and haven't stopped since writing it all down!

Wow! What an amazing collection you have there! :) thank you for always being inspiring, Jon! :) keep safe!

Thanks Rose! Appreciate the kind words and the comments :)

I never thought of 3x5 cards. I have always used notepad on my computer to keep track of things I want to remember. I think i'll give 3x5 cards a try. they are even more portable.

Yeah I love them...Keeps them organized and right at arm's reach. Great for memorizing things as well

Laminate!!!! I like the 3x5 card idea. It’s a portable journal ;)

Yeah I have even laminated some business card sizes....Perfect for stashing in wallets when I need a good pick me up LOL

Note cards are a great way to keep quotes that you are going to want to use in the future. Your whole plan makes sense and should be the gold standard.

We should have a big 'show us your index cards' posting contest LOL

Yeah it's just a fun habit I started...And never gave it up :)

I love words of inspiration that you can randomly pick like a passage out of the IChing - I have a number of quotes books as well as daily cards where you can select a random.

and I see you are laminating :)

Back in my early bush days I used to use the IChing as a daily applicable motivator and it is surprising how one can personalise words of wisdom to fit and suit the current context of ones situation.

It is however how we perceive our journey that will ultimately encourage out interpretation

That's awesome man....Yeah this really works too for people that might not wanna site down and read an entire book...I have something similar that's on my desk right now:

It's not iching...But it's pretty slick ;)

"I regret putting the G in my username"

  • Jon Golson (Steemfest 3)

Ha ha ha ha ha ha Worst decision ever.

About the only thing I regret in life LOL

Nah...makes you have more Character and Grit with that 'g' in there :)

Grit....I like it lol

Oh hi! you’ve dragged me back to the blockchain.

Guess I need to learn this all over again :)
