If you are like me.. you love food! I love all the good, delicious, (not usually nutritious) foods! What I don't like is how the unhealthy foods make me feel.
So what do i do? Find an alternative! One of those is Spaghetti Squash- because this girl loves her some pasta!
It took me a while to figure out the easiest way to prepare spaghetti squash without risking cutting my hand off! --If you have ever cut a raw spaghetti squash, you can relate!
I saw this hack on Pinterest years ago and thought I would share my method of preparing and cooking spaghetti squash without ending up at an urgent care or throwing it across the kitchen!
Step one: pierce lengthwise with a fork down both sides
Step two: Place in the microwave for 3 mins- let cool for 1-2 mins after.. it will be very hot!
Step three: Cut both ends and slice down the middle- lengthwise. You will ideally follow the fork piercings.
Step four: Scrape out the seeds. Similarly to how you scrape out a pumpkin and place on a sheet pan.
Step five: Add some oil. Whichever kind you want is fine. I typically use olive oil and spread it around with a basting brush. This helps get the squash tender and more "noodle" like and less crunchy.
Step six: sprinkle with some salt and pepper (if desired)
Step seven: Bake at 450 degrees for 35-45 mins- depending on how ripe your squash is. You should be able to easily pierce with a fork!
Step eight: Remove and let cool to where you can handle the squash without burning your hands.
Step nine: Use a fork and scrape out your "noodles"
Step ten: add to your favorite pasta dish and ENJOY! 👌
Hope this is helpful!!

Love pasta too. This is an interesting way of prepping spaghetti squash. Mmmm. Wish we have virtual taste test too. LOL! An advance happy weekend.

I tried it once, but it's not my thing! But, nicely explained for those who want to give it a try! Thanks for sharing!
Of course! Different strokes for difference folks! :)
Ah, this is how you do! I've known about spaghetti squash for years and didn't know how to cook it. I didn't know how you could eat it, either. The last step "add to your favorite pasta dish", that sounds like something I can do.
Thank you for the recipe!
You're welcome! And yes- There are a ton if dishes you can make with it- I am making a lasagna tonight that I will post- its so yummy! I personally think it tastes best with a tomato based sauce, but I have also used it with Alfredo sauce as well!
Ah, thank you ... it IS time to go buy spaghetti squash...
You're welcome! and yes! Go! the more yellow- the more ripe! If it is more of a white color, it will be very tough!

thank you!
If you are a fan of spaghetti squash, you can also use it to make a gluten-free pizza crust substitute (I think my wife mixes it with some egg and cheese...I'm sure you can find a recipe online). While it doesn't generally hold it's shape quite as tell as regular crust, we find it is also great if you are watching calories. Plus, since home made pizza crust is usually pretty flimsy as well, I don't mind eating my pizza with a fork. !PIZZA
Interesting! I have never heard of using it for pizza crust! I have used cauliflower to make pizza crust before though! I may have to check that out! thanks for the tip :)

Thanks for sharing this method for cooking spaghetti squash. I remember cremating an acorn squash in the microwave once. That was fun. I might try this because we have a convection toaster oven that won't heat up entire house to use it.
