Pat and Mat decide to visit Havana and ride a motorcycle through its streets just when the Czech presence in the largest of the Antilles reached 100 years.
These two optimistic characters, also known as Los Chapuceros, are the protagonists of a popular Czechoslovakian top motion animated series; they are also the focus of this communication piece. In the series, Pat and Mat get entangled in difficult situations, but they always find a way to solve the problem with the most creative and incredible solutions: like the very essence of the common Cuban citizen.
The JAWA motorcycle, also the center of attention, is very popular in Cuba and quite widely used. Of Czech origin and manufacture, this moped was given as an incentive for good work performance to Cuban workers between the 1960s and 1990s. Today there are many models of this brand in circulation on the island. There is even a motorcycle club in the capital.
This poster was a fun for me from the initial idea. I enjoyed it a lot, even before starting the first graphite strokes. It is conceived to be printed in three color inks with the silkscreen printing technique. The silkscreen poster in Cuba is a strong tradition that began in the 60s of the last century, first through political graphics, but consolidated through the cultural poster, highlighting the poster for film productions.
This piece was created in 2020 with the slogan "1920-2020. A century of Czech presence in Cuba" as part of a contest to celebrate the occasion. It was awarded third prize by the Jury.
A je to!

"Great poster, I liked it. Los Chapuceros is still a cartoon that all Cuban children watch, and the Jawa — everyone knows how loud they are. You captured the essence of Cuba-Czech Republic very well."
