The preparation for UNESCO recognised Intangible Cultural Heritage Mangal Shobhaajatra is going on in full swing despite protests of the students at the Dhaka University area demanding review of quota system in public services.
Though some problems were created for the police action in the protest programme, teachers and students of Dhaka University’s faculty of fine arts, however were trying their best to finish tasks as per then plan to bring out the procession on Pahela Baishakh morning on Saturday.
‘Some structures of artworks were damaged on Sunday night during the police action and no visitor is coming to buy artworks those we sell for collecting funds for holding the procession. Still, we are determined to finish the preparation for arranging the Mangal Shobhaajatra in style,’ FFA dean Professor Nisar Hossain told New Age on Tuesday.
New Age found the teachers and students were making many artworks and replicas of big birds, owls, elephants, fishes and others for Mangal Shobhaajatra.
‘We are working for extra hours to finish all tasks in time,’ said Abu Sufian, a student of the faculty.
Theme of this year’s Mangal Shobhaajatra is humanism as glorified in Lalon’s song Manush Bhojle Sonar Manush Habi, organisers said.
