hello everyone !!
Called " our lady of africa " this Catholic basilica is located in Algiers, Algeria.
If you come to algiers on a boat this is one of the first thing you will see from the sea, this basilica was built on a promontory dominating the sea of 124 m, north of Algiers .
She is considered as "the twin sister of the Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde" the Church of Marseille, France.
The basilica is nicknamed "Lalla Myriem" which means litteraly " Mrs Mary " by the inhabitants of the neighborhood.
And for algerians, it is a symbol of a cultural mixing and religious cohabitation .
The construction took 14 years, it begans in 1858 and it was completed in 1874. And she was led by Jean-Eugène Fromageau who was chief of many buildings in Algeria.
if you visit algiers someday, you have to visit this cathedral. you will fall in love with it's architecture and the view that it has of all algiers.
