MAXIM

In Yoruba: E b’efon labata, e’yo obe ti, se e ro pe omi l’omu ku ni?
Literal Translation – You saw a water buffalo at the water shore and you immediately brought out knife to start carving it, do you think it drowned or what?

Usage

This maxim is used to caution people against taking glory for another person’s efforts.

Further Explanation

In life, there are so many selfish people that wants to take glory for team efforts, who are always looking for ways to reap where they have not sown. This saying is more like chastising such people to deter them from taking undue advantage. You should not apportion rewards to yourself, when you do not work for it.
