Had a super Saturday with Saint Nicholas and Zwarte Piet in Hong Kong which gave me a real Christmas mood in our's +25 degrees.
For those who don't know, in The Netherlands, for the most kids, the most important day during December is 5th December, when Sinterklaas (St. Nicholas) brings them their presents!
But nothing is perfect even for this kind of family holidays. The Netherlands still struggles with Zwarte Piet stereotype and raises the questions about Racial discrimination as white people colour themselves in total black.
To avoid any political instabilities Black Piets (Zwarte Piets) in Hong Kong are not black anymore, but brown and the kids still love this holiday the most!
Zwartz Piet need move with the times, and modern societal expectations. Painting up the face in mockery be it black, brown or white, is now outmoded. Today's young generation are going to be really embarrassed in the future, when they think back to their parents idea of fun.
