Flower coffin Carrier of My Aunt's Funeral

in #culture7 years ago (edited)

While organizing old photos, I found the flower coffin carrier of my late aunt.
She had passed away several years ago.
We delivered traditional funeral.
Photo is not so clearly focused. But it might be the last traditonal funeral in our family.

May be I am the almost last generatiion to see the traditional funeral.
My aunt had had a very tough life. She experianced the korean war 1950 - 1953.
Her husband, my uncle, elder brother of my dady, passed away earlier.
So she did every thing to raise my cousin.
My mom was her best freind.
It is strange that men were not so helpful at difficult times.
It was like that my dady and cousin had not enough ability to support their family.
That was the share of my mom and my aunt.
when the last is good, everything is fine.
My mom and my aunt did their reponsibility successfully.
At the funeral, my mom felt sad and sorry.
I remember her cry and tears until now.
She had never leave the coffin during the funeral.
In korean traditional funeral, the coffin is decoralted with artificial flowers.
I took a photo of my mom with the flower coffin carrier.

The flower coffin carrier is for the last trip to the other world from this world.

I didn't take the photos of that funeral.
So I took a photo of funeral marching from internet. It was similar to my aunt's funeral

One year later I visited aunt's grave. The grave was fine.
My aunt was burried next to my uncle.
My cousin had grown up without his father.
I know he have missed his dady all his life. So he burried his mom right beside his dady.

Did they finally meet at the other world ?

Very interesting, I'm happy you can hang onto the tradition.
It is good that this tradition is not lost!!
Thank you for sharing this post!!

Interesting. It's a whole lot better than the American way.

Flowers have a brief beautiful life, @slowwalker, much like ours.

This post is a memento mori - a reminder that all must die and it illustrates the transience of earthly life and the need for detachment.

Yet again, we see the tension between the traditional and the modern, even in funerary rites.

Looming unspoken in the background is the even greater division in your country and the reminders of a war that is as yet, unresolved.

You are a faithful observer of your culture, @slowwalker, and as you portray the reality you see about you, you paint the whole canvas, using all the colours, not leaving anything out.

A good post today, my friend.

Thank you so much for your comment

i believe in after life , if they loved each other they will definitely spend an eternity together

Traditions like this are evolving or disappearing fast in all cultures around the world. There are so many things that I remember from my childhood in the 1970s that there just don't seem to be photos captured of. Great that these images are now captured for ever...

I am so sorry to lose our traditional cultures

Each country has its own traditions, In my country, cemetery as usual

It's always so sad to lose someone near in your family! I know the pain @slowwalker!

Everyone has to suffer that pain.

That's true and so painful indeed! That's life as we say!

Very good post. Please visit my blog https://steemit.com/@kishore1988

Each region has a unique story and things to share.. Best regard..

Thank you so much

It's a cultural moment caught in some pics, good job man

Thank you 😉

So bright and colourful; looks more like a celebration of her life than a memento of her death, like in the West where everything is sombre and black at funerals.

That's the difference

wow, in my country it is not so colourful! I love your traditions man!

Very good post@slowwalker

Amazing your moment photographies bro, thanks for share @slowwalker

Amazing culture. I like it

Is really a very good post to add to my knowledge and a bright picture

Thank you for sharing @slowwalker... I suppose we can only speculate on how things are in the afterlife. A wise uncle once said to me (when I was a teenager) that "whatever it is, it will no doubt be something far bigger than our human minds can imagine." I have kept that in mind ever since.

It seems a lot of the traditional ways are going away in many cultures-- thank you for this look into your world!

Thank you for your comment

Such a magnificent coffin.
She must have lived a colorful life.
It's great to cherish your loved ones.

Thank you so much

Ahh man may your aunt and uncle rest in piece. it really a had thing loose and forget about your love ones

I love learning about new cultures, this one is very special

Upvoted and also resteemed :]

It's not everyday that I read about a funeral and I thought I would be afraid or something but strangely, it seems all very peaceful. It's an end that all of us will face eventually so keeping that in mind, many things in life that I thought are important suddenly don't feel as important anymore.

That 's right

such a beautiful and colorful tradition. Im sure your aunt lived a great life. Thanks for sharing :)

That was beautiful I'm so sorry about your aunt and the troubled they went through and your poor mother hope she suffered from her sisters loss, the way your country does funerals is a beautiful thing to honor your aunt, this steem touched my heart thank you so much for sharing it, I hope your mom is in good health and its still painting her beautiful pictures, all my best for you and your family and your cousin🕊🌹🌹 I'm sure they are together at peace and with so much love as are my mom and dad

Thank you so much @cecirod1218

Your welcome! Xx

We also used at the funeral earlier wreaths of artificial flowers. But now priests call on people to use living flowers, because artificial ones must then be disposed of so that they do not harm the environment.

That's much better in my guess

Sorry to hear the loss ..

I think it is so beautiful to see how your culture honors their loved ones, and anyone should be so lucky to have so many people remembering and honoring their connection to your Aunt. My sense is your people realize life is never ending, it just changes forms on its way back to Source. Thank you for sharing.

It is like that you think same way as we koreans

Beautiful tradition the flower coffin.
Resteemed :-)

Beautiful remembering your aunt. Yes, I believe if one has lived a good life of belief that all is made right on the other side.

It's really exciting

wow i have never seen a funeral like that, it looks beautiful and colourful!

Korean traditional funeral is the philosophical ceremony for the death

@slowwalker
I feel for You (((

This is such an amazing tradition.
It is so beautiful and a great way to celebrate the richness of their life and the colourful impact they had in this world.
R.I.P
I hope we can all meet again one day...

I am so sorry hearing about your aunt. May she rest in peace. She must have been a great lady.

Sorry for your loss.

That definitely was a nice funeral, if I may say so.

I am sorry this post was about a personal loss but I am glad you posted it. I learn much about different cultures through steemit. Thank you for sharing pictures and information about this tradition.

I am sry for your lost , here we also use a lot of flowers but live once depend on the season :)

I am with you my friend in your sorrow . but this is the stark truth of life. and want to say this very first time . this is really very beautiful funeral..

The rites of death have always been an important part of civilizations. If you think so well we know the ancients through the study of the places of burial.
I always visit cemeteries ... are places rich in stories, love, and peace. Also for the living ....
