Greetings to my people here on steemit, here is another episode of your Culture Promotion Show by Aniky, My greetings to us all,
It been a while on this show, My show and the show for you that Promote Culture On The Steem Blockchain is back from long time leave.
Today on this show, we will be discussing BEAUTIFICATION IN YORUBALAND.
Beautification in Yoruba land is that part of the Yoruba Tribe that entails how we take carer of our body making it look good all the time. Without adding to or subtracting from the truth, Beautification in Yoruba Land is one of those things the Yoruba Youths of today don't want to listen to or practice anymore because of the modern day civilisation.
Lack of knowledge on the benefits of Yoruba Beautification is the main reason why the youths of today gives less importance to it.
In our modern world of today, if the youths come across a person with tribal marks, they make jest and tagged that person as a local and not civilised person because they see tribal marks as a style of the olden days people,
when youths also come across their friend putting on Agbada, Dansiki or Buba(For Male), iro and Buab (for female), or a lady that made some olden days hairstyle like ipako elede, kojusoko keyinsale, they tagged them as not being in town because they are now new civilised hairstyles for modern ladies.
Whereas these olden days practices are the real beauty of our Culture. Below are those things the Yorubas see as Beautification;
- Painting some part of the body with Laali (Dried Henna Powder is what we refer to as Laali).
- Piercing the Ear
- Plaiting of Hair
- Barbing the Hair and
- Facial Tribal marks
Facial Tribal Marks: This is one of the major Beautification for both male child and female child which our fathers during the olden days believe that it beautifies their children so much. They also see it as a way to recognize their children most especially between different ethnic groups.
Piercing The Ear: This is majorly for the female child, where they are expected to put in earrings and beads to make them more beautiful than they were before.
Plaiting of Hair: This is also for the Female child, the hairdresser create different beautiful hairstyle for the females which beautify them alot and makes them looks extraordinarily attractive.
Barbing of Hair: This is for the Male child, they barb their hair and they only have one hairstyle which is cutting off all the hair they have remaining only their scalp except for the king guards whom leave little of their hair at the front to show that they are the kings guards. The Yorubas call them ILARI
