Translations

The weekly cn translations by @deanliu and @ygern are proving very popular.

Each week a select number of posts will be translated. The original authors will benefit from increased exposure and a share of the payout on the translated post. The Culture vulture challenge will also get a contribution towards future prize funds and post promotion.

A big congratulations to the first two posts selected for translation. @sweatpea and @madlenfox, well done. These were great posts and really reflect what #culturevulture is trying to showcase.

September Challenge

This month @joythewanderer will be the guest judge for the competition, and as always we will be getting help with curating from @boxcarblue.

If you haven't entered already it's time to get writing and digging out some great photos from those family albums!

Culture Vulture

The tag #culturevulture is a place here on Steemit, where you can share something unique about your country with the world. Instead of being a post about travel or tourism this tag is about sharing local experiences.

Inspiration

If your eager to get writing on Steemit and you don't have material this tag might be just the thing to get you going.

Inspiration is all around us. It may be a daily ritual where you live or a local passion that always reminds you of home.

Here I will call out some recent posts that stand out and really capture the spirit and the vision of this tag. There have been so many already this month, this is just a small selection but for more you can check out the #culturevulture tag. Winners of this months prize will be announced at the end of the month, but I have no doubt these posts are in the shortlist.

Festivals

This is a natural place to post about festivals and celebrations from around the world.

@tangmo made an entry about the Ching Pred Ceremony in Thailand.

Music

We express our culture and heritage through art and music. We love posts about traditional instruments from around the world and what the music means to you.

@khekhem made an entry about traditional dance in Botswana.

Culture

Expressions and gestures vary from country to country. It may be a gesture or a certain word but travellers often don't get it or fail to fully appreciate the nuances of language when they travel.

@sweetpea has another wonderful post about cultural nuances for visiting south africa, this post will put a smile on your face.

Customs

Every country, even region has unique customs. Isn't it so much more fun to stay in local accommodation when you travel. You get to experience local customs instead of the generic 5 Star treatment that some hotels offer.

@manshar writes this month about the Torch Parade in Banda Aceh

Traditions

There have been several great posts about Marriages and weddings. Culture Vulture is a natural place to post about these family celebrations. One of my lasting experiences from travelling was a wedding I was invited to in India, and another in Syria. In my culture weddings are small family affairs. You would never invite a stranger or people you only knew for a short time. Here you can experience an event that you may not get invited to when you are abroad.

This post by @rosatravels is a stand out post for me this month. Well worth a read!

Food

Food is something that always reminds you of home, and of other countries. There have been so many wonderful entries this month, as always. Here is a selection from the last week.

@dandalion does it again with another great post.

The coffee culture is obviously a big part of life in Aceh. To learn more check out this great post by @hananan

Other Contributions

My last contribution to this challenge is part of a series on Irish Pubs in Ireland, The Irish Pub & A Dirty Old Town...

Tell us a bit about the ritual and fill in the details about why, how, and the cultural background. Don't forget a few pictures to bring it to life. We prefer posts with some original photography. It's ok to use some stock photos (but reference the source) as long as these photos are not the main focus of the post. We are looking to reward original stories for this challenge.

For more details about the rules and examples of what we are interested in check out this months announcement post Culture Vulture Challenge September Challenge

August Challenge

50 SBD was paid out in the August Challenge. The results can be found at hhttp://www.steemit.com/culturevulture/@eroche/culture-vulture-challenge-august-results/

Thanks eroche! It's my pleasure to be this month's guest judge.
It's always great to get inspired by the unique cultures and events from fellow Steemians. :D

thanks for sharing such a rad post. i love the idea behind this series as i love learning about traditions all over the world. its remarkable how many similarities there are despite huge geographical gaps in between cultures and civilizations. in this time, it is imperative more than ever to be understanding and open to other cultures to help improve relations and positivity in this melting pot of a world!
