For number 11 on my tour of Dublins Pubs I visited Devitt's on Camden Street.
The Irish Pub is an institution. To this day it is very much part of Irish life. Every aspect of life's journey is celebrated here, from wetting the baby's head to waking the dead. In recent times it has been (in)famous as a place where brown paper envelopes have been exchanged but also much loved for; the lockins, the stories, the music and the great craic. A version of the Irish pub has been exported all over the world and from Mozambique to Shanghai you can visit a "Molly Malones" or "Murphys". Each incarnation will have an Irish sounding name and be distinguished by Celtic writing above the door but there is no substitute for the real thing.
Join me as I visit some of the great pubs of Dublin, discover some secret watering holes, and help me bring Steemit to the masses!

Devitt's The Cusack Stand
This is a family run traditional pub, which has had several names over the years but is currently owned by Willie Devitt, a fellow Limerick native who has owned and run this pub since 1977.
There is a strong emphasis on sport and music, particularly GAA, with pictures from down the years over the walls. The name "The Cusack Stand" also refers to on the of the Stands at the National GAA Stadium, Croke Park. There is traditional sessions several nights a week. Have you noticed mosaics outside several Dublin pubs? It seems to have been a popular design for Pubs that were built or renovated in the Victorian era.
The Bar
This pub consists of a long bar area with lots of corners to sit.
Have you noticed anything unusual in the Bar?
There is an unusual feature here that you may notice in several Irish bars. Can you find it? 1 SBD for the first comment that gets it.
Irish Whiskey
At the back of the Bar a small intimate "Whiskey Room" with some tables and chairs.
The Lounge
There is also a lounge area upstairs that can be rented out for functions. This area is called "An Poc Fada", The Long Puck in English which is a game played all over Ireland where you try to hit a Hurling ball and the person who can hit it the farthest wins.
GAA
Willie Devitt played intercounty hurling and this pub could clearly be called a GAA pub. There are memorabilia and pictures all over the wall from the GAA through the years. I found a seat next to a picture of the famous Limerick team from the 30's, and the greatest hurler of all time!
How does the Beer taste?
Now we are getting to the best part, only one pub so far has gotten a 4 for the Guinness. How will Devitt's do?

I am going to give a rating to each pub in this series based on the Guinness. There is a scale of 1-4, 4 is exceptional, 3 is very good and 2 is acceptable, 1 is muck.

You are likely to meet anyone in a Dublin Pub. From John F Kennedy to Barak Obama there have been 7 American Presidents spotted in Dublin Pubs. I am unlikely to get to talk to President Trump if he visits but if I meet any other celebrities in my travels I will be sure to introduce them to Steemit and get a Selfie.

There are so many great pubs in Dublin. I have been here for years but I am still finding new ones.
I love the lampshades made out cut glass decanters with the bottoms cut off.

I would love to join you to discover the best pint but I cannot stand pubs, I hate the smell inside of them (stale beer) and I hate alcohol.
I come from a long line of professional alcoholics so I just never got into it. I was dragged from bar to bar as a child and grew to hate the places.
I could make an exception and drop by the DUKE to say hello to my fellow Steemians on the next meet up.

One other reason I do not do pubs is I'm a bit deaf and I find hearing in pubs almost impossible. I knew I had a good reason, terrible having a bad memory.
Me too, the first meetup we were in a very busy pub. Not so comfortable. Upstairs in the Duke is always nice though.
