I went on air with @aggroed on Sunday night on his weekly Minnow Mayor Townhall to speak about the future of the platform and potential changes to curation. It's clear that I alone don't have the power to force changes, nor do I feel like I should have that power, so instead I'm asking for witnesses to discuss their ideas and let me share mine. After speaking with @aggroed on the show I feel like we're mostly in agreement about the long term goals for the platform and I think the ideas he suggested are valuable as well. I'll briefly summarize our thoughts and you can hear the full discussion in the video below.
Part of my idea is based around changing curation rewards to be more profitable than selling votes and renting delegation. While I personally do a lot of curation, the reason for suggesting this change and the reason I am promoting this change is entirely based upon my idea that this platform should be driven by content. I agree that we need investors and I have ran many successful business before going all in on crypto. My thoughts are that fundamentally the investors that don't care how the profit return comes in, as long as we aren't increasing their effort and time investment, have no reason to resist ideas that accomplish that goal while growing the platform.
My idea is that we increase content quality and adoption of the platform while providing more incentive to invest and use voting power on the best content. Essentially if we pay more of the reward split to curators, I feel that it makes vote selling and delegation unprofitable and it's just as easy to follow quality curators on auto vote as it is to run a vote selling/delegation rental business, if not easier. The time investment required to maintain bots or process refunds is spent gauging the performance of the curators those investors are following. @aggroed said that many witnesses are suggesting creating a front end slider to adjust what percent of rewards we pay out to curators and we discuss that as well. I hope you enjoy and feel free to share your thoughts below. Namaste.
Appreciated hearing your dialog with @aggroed on the issues. It is frustrating to recognize that there will always be folk who game the system (whatever it is). While a shift of focus (or weight) to curation may very well address some of the problems, I expect it would have to be carefully crafted to ensure that quality content doesn't take a hit while trying to flush out the unsavory behaviors. And we all end up agreeing to let a certain amount of gaming to persist (as there is no simple means of preventing it).
In theory we could go back to the circle jerk voting that we had before/have now. But the thought is, it has to be a conscious shift that addresses the big WHY about investing in the platform as well as rewards quality content. As is, I'm basically arguing logic that "well you should be using the bid bots because other people are" and that makes no sense to me. That's just pay to play and the system we already have in crony capitalism. I really hope to see us build something better here.
it's a shame you didn't get more feedback on this. i think we do need to motivate curation, however without support this will not happen. I'm moved to respond to this but its become an article.
More people talking about it raises awareness.
agreed. am writing a post ill link it back here
