So I'm still trying to get my head wrapped around the whole curation thing.
I've read a few articles and feel I have the "basics" down, but nothing more.
Either way I still have a lingering question that I haven't been able to answer...
What happens if I up-vote a post say a week after it's posted?
- Does the amount of post value money wise go up?
- Do people get paid out curation rewards?
- Does anything even go to the author at that point?
I'm just confused if there is any incentive to click that up-vote button after X date.
I'll sometimes be reading articles and say to myself "oh this was a pretty decent article that I just read", bang I give an up-vote because I personally liked the article and then I realize it's like 3 months old...
Is that dumb? Do I just not up-vote the article at that point because it's "pointless"?
Need some help here people! :P

I have exactly the same questions. I haven't found any definitive answers yet.
Yeah I'm glad I'm not the only one confused. I mean I don't want to not up-vote any article even if it's "old", but I also don't want to "waste" voting power on something that is pointless...but if the article is quality do I care?
It's like this catch22 of getting "penalized" for voting on something that is too old because it pulls away from my voting power, but I want to show love to quality work.
I'm sure I'm missing something in the equation...but this is how I feel about it right now :/
confused :( :( :(
I found out about Steemit through a 5 month old post and then I created my account. Most reading about how Steemit works and how cryptocurrencies work, are from old post. Those posts were of high quality and very informative, hence, they deserve more love even if they are old :)
On the other hand, voting power :(
It is a good question that hopefully we will get an answer here :)
Yeah me too. It might be posted somewhere, but no curation reward articles that I've read so far addresses this question.
Only issues about how much you might get paid out if you vote within a set time-frame.
So, I think I figured it out. If you go to welcome -> payments, that section states:
"The payments may fluctuate (up and down) until the final payment is reached."
It says that payment occurs approximately 7 days after posting. So it seems the monetization lifetime of a post is 7 days.
I would imagine they'll have some other system in place though. What if someone's post goes viral? If it's after the first week they'd miss all of that income.
Yeah exactly what I was thinking...
I did see the same thing you saw about the payout, but why not make it impossible to up-vote after that time-frame?
Or have some different type of payout system after 7 days. IDK...I'm not trying to bash the system, I just honestly don't get what happens after it "locks" down the payout.
Where does the money go?! lol we need answers! ;)
I agree. Cause you never know what's going to take off later. I think it'd be heartbreaking to see a post you made forever ago explode. If it was recent it would've made tons.
As far as bashing the system, we are their users, so part of their goals should be to listen to our feedback. If we have a problem I would say we should be open to discuss it. It's only fair to everyone that we have constant and open communication about problems with Steemit. Otherwise, what'll happen when we leave beta? The general public isn't as forgiving as us crypto nerds are, so we should capitalize on our opportunity now.
lol well said my friend! I'm hoping this post might bring someone "in the know" here to shed more light on the situation.
you're making steemit a great community with your content neverxpected! keep it up!
Dang man I don't know what I've done to receive that compliment, but I'll gladly take it! I really appreciate it!
awesome
