Curation rewards used to be 50%, before the July 4th first payout and hardforks. They are now actually 25%, but curation rewards are donated to the post's author in a reverse auction method based on the time a post was voted on, from 0 to 30 minutes old. I just voted on your post at 15 minutes, thus donating 50% of my curation reward to you.

Look at past payouts displayed on posts. They all show roughly 3% go to curators.
Past payouts: $ 100.29
-Author: $97.73
-Curators: $2.56 For example https://steemit.com/busy/@busy.org/busy-your-next-gen-social-network-platform-based-on-steem-blockchain https://steemit.com/steemsports-soccer/@steemsports/steemsports-borussia-dortmund-v-bayern-munich-mass-sp-distribution-game-bundesliga-borussiya-dortmund-v-bavariya-myunkhen
That is because large staked accounts voted on the posts fairly early. You can get a glimpse behind the scenes by visiting the steemd.com page for your post here: https://steemd.com/curation/@snowflake/why-curation-guilds-are-essential-to-the-future-of-steemit
Click "advanced mode" and see the last stat called author_curate_reward. See that you're (currently) getting a ~40% slice of the curation reward pie. Now click the vote details link for more detailed voting information.
As it turns out, my gamble of donating some of my own curation rewards was a good one. Shortly after me, some large stake votes happened and I will now be getting more curation reward for this post than I would have if I had waited until 30 minutes was up to preserve my whole curation stake. This is the game of the curation reward reverse auction.
How is this changing the % allocated to curators? I have been through dozens of posts and they all show the same curation reward % which is about 3%, are the numbers displayed incorrect or not?
Not all. I just scrolled through my recent curation rewards for the bigger ones and this one has a good ratio towards curators: https://steemit.com/science/@redalex/german-scientists-have-developed-an-effective-method-of-absorption-of-carbon-dioxide-from-the-air
It changes the % allocated because curation reward is dependent on stake. If a good amount of stake donates curation rewards with votes before 30 minutes, it means more curation rewards in total will be donated to the post author.
What is the purpose of this rule? I don't get it.
Curation rewards should be a fixed percentage of the total payouts and people who find good content early should be rewarded but i really don't see the point of the rule you mentionned?
Good curators should be able to make a living of curation..with many post getting 3% curation rewards no one but bots is going to invest their time curating.
I've looked at your posts man and 99% of them have a tiny curation rewards, below 5%. The link you gave me is an exception, I've also looked at other users's post and the curation rewards are tiny.
