But what is the purpose of curation if a faceless algorithm does it instead of a human who finds value in a work someone else created?

well, I am faithful to a handful of friends here on steemit. I vote for them. But I usually hand curate posts and find new authors to upvote as well. The bot helps me stay focused. I used to think like you at first, but I became more realistic. Some days I just need to stay off the internet...

If you need to stay off the internet, that's fine. You don't need to curate. Curation is not an obligation. It feels more valuable for me as a writer to see that actual eyes have seen what I write. Upvotes are secondary in my opinion.

I did this as well and with the same "contractor" that you chose. Eventually I found I was outvoting the bot, so I stopped using it :p But it was good for what it was intended.

In the future I hope to see all of these automated votes, including things like Curie, disappear because of improvements to Steem itself.

did you like @ontofractal's service? I think he's very decent.

Yes, I sure did. I just happened to be the type of person who goes on mad voting sprees. ;)

Nowadays, I'm trying to vote manually or not at all.
(It's not like I make curation money anyways, or have a lot of power on the platform, and I'm really just testing out the platform still)
