This weekend I was on set again for part 2 of an outdoor product commercial shoot. This time the location was a beautiful park in Fullerton, CA. I worked with a buddy of mine to make these. His job was to film and direct while my job was to monitor the feed on the tablet and check for lighting, composition, and make sure we had sharp focus and capturing the shots that are needed.
In order to do that we used the Hollwland wireless transmitter. This basically takes the video feed directly from the camera and sends it to a nearby device ie the tablet and allows me to monitor what he sees in real time.
Working with the model was great and she was very professional and fun. The baby however was good overall but working with kids, in general, is not easy. Getting them to look in the right direction and look happy in all the shorts is hard. Especially when your filming for hours and they start to get cranky and fall asleep.
Shooting during the evening and golden hour is a magical time for lighting. The golden glow of the sky and getting the shadows on the actress gives a very interesting and strong feel.
We filmed all of these on a DSLR the Canon 5d Mark 4. This is a perfect example of how it's possible to film a commercial and not be filming on the most expensive gear. It really is not so much the tools but how to use them and making the most with that you have.
If anyone has any questions about filmmaking or cameras or anything in the commercial space and industry comment below and ill do my best to answer them.
