Was Ann really going to get married?

I agreed to accept thd friendship again.
At least,he was a good cook so he would teach me how to cook.
I promised to call back and visit as he left the supermarket that day.

Our friendship was just the way it used to be before we broke up.
I got to learn so much from him including how to cook and do other duties.
He would always cuddle Desire to sleep while I was cooking.

Gradually,I convinced myself this time that the love was real.Dan was a good man.
At one of our dates after when we met at the mall,he told me he wanted to marry me. I told him everything my father did to me again incase he had forgotten.
He still didn't mind,he insisted on marrying me.
Then he knelt down and gave me a ring.
I was so excited that I would put on the ring to cook.

I accepted,seeing someone that agreed to marry me after everything made me smile.
With time,I told my parents about it, mummy agreed but I didn't care about daddy.
He initially wanted me to marry his friend's son but no way,all of them could be the same or better still,were the same.
Preparations came up for the wedding and I realised he loved Desire even more than me.
I remember one of those days I went to try a wedding gown.
I saw myself in tears.I remembered my dreams of marrying as a virgin but my blood thwarted my dreams.

I told Dan I didn't want a gown too tight although he liked my dress.
We got married on my 23rd birthday. I was a wife and a mother unplanned.
I cried again on my wedding day. I was just scared about everything with the nightmares I had before that day.
I felt like Dan was marrying me because of the child and not who I was.

Marriage was redefined when Dan was the man.
He loved me so much and he showed it.
As for Desire,he loved her so much and nutured her.
He was so committed and interested in his family.
He was more than a just husband and father to us but he stood in the gap to reconcile me with faith, hope and love.
This was someone I never knew until the university and after all my sins and guilt,he accepted me to be his wife forever.

Our bedroom was the type I dreamed for,I was no more just having sex, I was making love to my husband.
I made sure Desire had the emotional attention she required and the necessary follow up and listening ear she desired.

Today,I am a mother of three kids.
Desire is happily married and I will soon be a grandmother.
My sons are done with thier education.
I am a proud graduate of Guidance and counselling and I am very fulfilled.
My mother comes around regularly but daddy never did.
He just died yesterday after apologising.
I was so sure that I would never forgive him but I eventually have to.
