Ive been in Cusco, Peru for about two weeks now. When we landed it was interesting. No pickups at the airport and with a family of four with 8 maletas (Suitcases) we had to walk up a hill, Fortunately, my wifes brother met us there to help and gave us a warning ahead of time. Most taxis were on strike and the locals thought it was fun to put rocks in the road to cause more traffic headaches..
I sort of felt bad for the elderly that had to lug their bags out of the airport and find their way to their transportation. Even the Cusco airport is only a few kilometers away after 8 hours of flying you really dont want to lug your luggage for 20 minutes to the hotel walking...
Cuzco is located in southern and central Peru.. It is the gateway to Machu Picchu which this trip we did not go to.. Been there 6 times.. I feel bad for the tourists that tried to go there or for those stuck there and missed their flights home....
The strike closed the trains to Machu Picchu and there trips were cancelled.. Sucks since most of the tourist do a rush trip.. One night in Cuzco and get up at 5am to get the Harry Bingham train to the wonder of the world.
