Today I Registered My 140 Composition

in #cwh12 days ago

As of today, I have one hundred forty (140) compositions registered at STIM (Swedish Composers International Musicbureau). It's the organization that collects revenue from performances worldwide and pays it out to the music rights owners.

But that's not all of my compositions, some of them are lost forever as I never wrote them down. Especially some close to 300 Swedish folk music pieces; Polskor, waltzes, schottises, and other dance-related music. The thing with that music it's learnt by ear, not by sightreading. I had a huge repertoire of folk music when I was active, I could easily play to dance for a couple of hours without repeating any tune. No, I'm not making it up, and gosh, how I miss those days.

I also have many neoclassical and jazz compositions that I haven't registered. The reason is probably that it's very time-consuming to administer all this, and the payout so far is equal to zero.

So why am I doing it? When I was writing on Medium, and had copy and ghost writing assignments, I earned my last year (2023) $2500, but that was never my goal when I started to write. My goal was to get well from my severe panic disorder and agoraphobia. I never saw myself having an international career as a writer and mentor for others who also wanted to learn to write.

I got my Panic disorder and agoraphobia under control, and in the process, I have gained so many other things. Besides getting my life back, my beautiful and talented wife Miriam and many new friends all over the world. A community that especially us Polymaths can thrive in, Creativeworkhour. My career as a composer back, thanks to @alessandrawhite and Devin @bitterirony and the gift of a MacBook Air.

And two years ago, Alessandra, I, and Devin met for the first time here in Stockholm. And what people like us do when we meet. Well, this time it was to study and work on the performance of the first movement of Solistice. Which is the Clarinet Concertino that was the first piece I worked on returning to composing.

Since then, Alessandra and I met for a second time, in October last year, for the world premiere of my Kyrie!

I thank myself for one thing, being wise enough to realize that the only person and medicine that could cure me was me myself and I. And starting to write every day for two hours was the solution. And of course, moving, and all the other things that paved the path for me to return to a strong, healthier me. I have so much gratitude for all that, but I will do another post about that another time.

You have been prolific! I have written a load of songs, but don't have a full list of them. A lot get performed once for a video and then I forget them. I am thinking of reviving some to record for a second album so I can work more on the production side.

It's great that you have found this supportive community through Hive. Alessandra and Devin do so much. I've met them both too.
