Steemit seemed to need a cyberpunk tag, but in fact Steemit already has a cyberpunk tag

The term "cyberpunk" was a marketing term coined by William Gibson and Bruce Sterling in the 1980s as a convenient label so that sci-fi fans interested in "high tech, low life" could find each other more easily.

The term was seen in print as early as 1980, as the title of Bruce Bethke's story Cyberpunk.

Certain literary critics may have used the label before Gibson and Sterling laid claim to it.

However, the label has been deprecated as limiting by many different writers, for many different reasons.

Sci-fi fans who do not admire Gibson can object to the label because Gibson did not invent any of the elements of cyberpunk, but he became famous for putting them all together.

Sci-fi writers who were at the center of the movement (such as Gibson himself) are tired of talking about it, because they've had to give the same interview over and over again since 1984.

Sci-fi writers who came late to the party want to make their own mark and stake their own claim, so they want to draw attention away from cyberpunk and toward themselves.

Newbie that I am, I was not able to locate the cyberpunk tag when I first searched for it.

Now that a post exists, I can click on the tag and see that various other posters have already created the tag.

Thanks, I had the same issue looking for a tag I thought "should" be there, but didn't seem to be!

Yes, I've been trying to keep #cyberpunk alive myself.

Trying to do the same here, also invited some biohackers to join. They would be such a great addition to the cyberpunk tag!
