Cycling downhill and a car who saw me and was stopped at the stop sign decided to roll forward as I was crossing the intersection.
Realistically if I kept going he wouldn't have hit me and he didn't hit me but it was enough to frighten me going probably 25-30km/hr down a steep hill.
Why do you have to roll forward before the junction is clear. I know it's badly trained instinct but if I was in a car I'm protected. As a cyclist if the car mistimes it or I brake unexpectedly for a pothole then the car hits me and I end up in hospital.
I shouted probably for 2 minutes at the guy in the car that said hospital transfer. Like was he trying to transfer me to the hospital.
I wish people just waited a second longer. Safety is more important than arriving quickly.
I need to adjust my behaviour for this. Similar happened yesterday on a downhill stretch on the way to work. Different he saw me and still went on a slow cycle friendly street and I had right of way.
My solution has to be going more slowly and cycle more in the middle of the road and calmly ask a driver to be a bit more considerate.
I can only control myself and how I approach cycling and obviously being careful, observant on the bike or myself in the car. We're all realistically after the same thing to earn money to feed ourselves and loved ones and also to spend time with loved ones and enjoy our work and leisure as much as possible.
