My First Ever Cycling Race (Cross-Country Race Around Laguna Lake, Luzon, Philippines)

Hello fellow Steemians and most especially to the cyclists and mountain bikers out there! I've recently decided to join #cycling4steemit and here's the first of many throw-back posts about my previous adventures.

I started cycling when I decided that I want to be healthy. I used to weigh 75kg, now I'm at 60-ish. That was just it. At first, I just wanted to lose some weight and be healthier.

But as I become better and stronger I realized that cycling is not only healthy. It's also so much fun!

Months passed by and I became curious if I have what it takes to compete against other cyclists. So I joined a race.

The race was a cross-country type with full paved roads. We (mountain bikers) were mixed with road bikes but they were a different category and ranked separately from those using road bikes. The track was a little over 170km and was around the famous Laguna Lake (Laguna de Bay). There was one uphill challenge at about the middle but mostly flat.

Here's a video of that event

As my first race I didn't expect anything from myself and just wanted to finish the course. But I managed to finish fourth!

It's just too bad that the organizers didn't really put that much effort into the event. I haven't gotten the jersey/shirt that I was supposed to get as a finisher. This discouraged me from joining further events. I did join a virtual race though but that doesn't really count.

Anyway, to finish up, this coming February 18, 2018, I'll join a trail race so wish me luck.

Good luck man. I love racing, even though I feel like I'm dying every time I do one. How long is your trail race and what's the elevation looking like? 170km on an MTB is tough, even if it's on paved roads. Well done!

Thank you! I joined a 40km one and I have to finish the first 30 of it in 2 hours and 45 minutes. Elevation seems flat when its mapped out but with technical trails, it's as if it's always uphill haha. Two parts of the race course are IMBA certified. One part is a blue square and another is a black diamond.

good luck with the next race! not bad to get forth place as a first competition!

oh and welcome to cycling4steemit man! :)
