This was a shorter ride today as I spent most of the day doing yard work to prepare for a backyard party at my house tonight. Also, I'm still working on getting my dog used to rides in the trailer. He seems to enjoy it but gets upset at the noise of traffic and people nearby.
Unity Island separates the Black Rock Canal from the Niagara River. It was formerly known as Squaw Island but was changed a few years ago. I like the name change but I wish they had changed it back to the previous name, Deyowenoguhdoh (Divided Island), as the Senecas called it. There's no point arguing it. I just was excited when they originally proposed calling it Divided Island again.
Canada lies to the east of the Niagara River, which can be seen below along with the International Railroad Bridge and the Peace Bridge in the distance.
The north end of the island was blocked off by a construction fence. This cuts off a popular fishing pier as well as a better view of the lock (Second photo below) at the entrance to the Black Rock Canal.
The north end of the island is accessed by a railroad bridge which turns 90 degrees in the rare event that a large ship needs to pass. It was such a rare event, so we had to wait a bit to leave.
We had to pass next to the highway, which upset Sebastian so we stopped at the foot of Forest at the edge of the Black Rock Canal. I tried to encourage him but I've yet to see Sebastian go in the water.
Strava messed up again and this time recorded only half the ride, just shutting off the ride when I got to Unity Island. It should be more like 7 miles as I rode around the island a bit and returned back to the starting point.

some really beautiful photos .. But my favorite photos are those of the puppy. Greetings friend
Great photos, looks like a really beautiful ride! Sebastian is a cutie pie, I always really wanted to take my schnauzer along, I think she would have loved it, but she passed a few years ago so I just have to bring her in spirit.
My Strava thing seems to be fixed, turning off my location (gps) and then turning it back on again seemed to do the trick, I think it was sending weak gps signal, so it was cutting out. Ahhhhhh technology ;)
Sorry she passed. It's fun seeing dogs enjoy a ride.
There are nearly 14,000 animal shelters and rescue groups across North America.
Oh it would be amazing for a dog to take such a nice ride!
nice picture,,,,
