Anyone here stay in Desa Petaling or used to stay in Desa Petaling?
Old Western Cowboy Steak House must be a very familiar restaurant name to you. It has been in business for 17+ years, price is somehow cheaper than other western eateries you can find around KL/Selangor area. Their portion is not humongous but enough to fill the tummy of a normal eater.
Rumors stated that it is always full during the weekend but I can say that during dinner time on weekday, it is still packed with human. You might have to wait 10-20 mins for a table.
So, my sister decided we should go give it a try with the family since we have never been to Old Western Cowboy Steak House before.
It is rather easy to find as you can waze or google navigate to the restaurant. There are plenty of parking but usually those closest are always unavailable, so you might need to take a walk.
You won't missed it as long as you are on the exact street and the long stretch of tables on both side of the road will welcome you.
Seating indoor might be the best as seating outside attract mosquito. But no worries, they have mozzie coils around the area. If you are not to fond of the smell, you may want to sit indoor and the waiting time might be longer.
But first, let me show you something we used to love to order when we visit a western restaurant.
Big Cup Drink. They served a variety of drinks that you can choose from the regular size or the Big Cup size. Usually a regular cup of drink are not enough when we indulge in our main course as last time western restaurant (those that price that are cheap) tend to be outdoor and no air-con. A jumbo size drinks is enough to quench our thirst and cool us down.
Mushroom Soup, you can skip this. The taste is just like water downed Campbell mushroom soup from the can.
Consider as a signature main course most people will order. Grill Chicken with Black Pepper sauce. The chicken are tender and juicy, each piece of chicken dip with the sauce it give your tongue a tingling sense that wow factor that they really put in a lot of pepper in it. Don't play play, you can really taste the hotness from the black pepper.
Deep Fried Chicken with Salted Egg Sauce. Since salted egg sauce was a trend last year, they do have it in their menu. The battered chicken are not dry as the meat in it are just juicy, the outer layer is super crunchy but you won't feel it's too dry. For the sauce, it lack of salted egg taste and do not have the mushy texture of the egg yolk and tiny bit of chunk of the yolk. Nevertheless, it is still worth the try.
Deep Fried Fish with Island Sauce. It is actually Fish and Chip with some Island Sauce on it. Battered fish fillet are good just that disappointing on the sauce given and it doesn't taste like Thousand Island Sauce.
Rejoice to all butter milk lover. Deep Fried Fish with Butter Milk Sauce. Look at the amount of butter milk sauce, you will be in heaven when you actually finish the sauce. Fish Fillet are well cook and it goes very well with the sauce. The only disappointment is that the sauce is on the sweet side, not sure the cook misjudge the sugar amount or it's suppose to be like that. Might need to pay another visit to confirm the sauce taste.
So, if you are in the neighborhood and up for some cheap western food, Old Western Cowboy Steak House is the place for you to go. Be mindful that it going to be jam pack so buffer a bit more time ahead so you would starve yourself while waiting. Another thing, services might be a bit slow as the patrons are huge as they might not able to attend to you immediately.
