It caused a jam in an already very narrow road, Motorbikes were squeezing through, Cars were pacing slowly as the people were shifting within the queue. WHAT ON EARTH ARE THESE PEOPLE DOING?
As time would have it, you learn some truths when you stay in a place for a long enough time and you hear things. Mr. Topui was kind enough to shed some light to me.
Just like that nuff said, Mr. Topui would bring me through the storms to find the best food Penang has to offer! #topuiadventures
Rather in a humbling setting, a small magical stall sets itself in Jalan Perak in the mornings. He would only open his stores for only a few hours before the magic runs out! The crowd would anticipate his arrival as if waiting for Elvis to make an entrance.
Clad in a thick White Polo Tee, Uncle Happy unsheathes his weapon and purposefully dances across the fighting ring. You can literally (and I'm not even metaphorically speaking!) hear the crackles of the skin as he tears through the layers of the meat.
The specimen reveals a thick layer of crust seasoned with the right amount of salt. This is where the crackling of fireworks happen. The knife pierces softly into the fore to reveal a thick layer of juicy pearly white meat.
As he finishes his dance, swiftly he gently places the loot into a bland piece of paper. I paid RM5~USD1 and went off thrilled to have gotten myself the goods! The wrapping paper would quickly gather steam as the pork was still warm from it's trip from the oven.
He came to me, we discussed, and I agreed to keep his identity private. He prefers to be discreet of his identity for various reasons but you all are welcome to come look for him. Just say you heard about him from a friendly whisper ;)
Uncle Happy does this purely as a hobby and does it as he likes to see the smile on people's faces. The crowd would queue underneath the hot sun, scuttling for shades from nearby trees. Faces beam as they watch him arrive and set up his stall. They would carry packs of roast pork away from the stall knowing they fought for themselves a very rewarding meal for the day.
Ladies and Gentleman, I present to you not just any Roast Pork, but as the locals will call it You should have yourself some "Xio Ba" in all it's beauty!

Thanks! I had it this morning and looking back, I'm still salivating over this! :)
Your descriptions are very picturesque. A secret find. As much as I have used TripAdvisor in a pinch, it is great to find those places unknown to the outside masses. That pork looks amazing.
Yea, I like TripAdvisor and I usually try to find good food there too! But yea getting to know locals and having them to recommend places, cultures and food is a different experience :)
Oh my the meat does look very very juicy :droolll:
It is! I don't usually eat a lot of roast pork because of the fats, but the white layer just melts in your mouth!
Drooling already!!!!
Let’s go!!!!
Awesome find! The best tends to hide in the most random of places, don't it? Great shots, too. Good share, thank you.
