DISCUSSION:

Before returning to their homeland, the people of Israel are reminded of their sins that led them to their captivity. They must not repeat former errors. What in vs. 3-5 shows that Israel's religion was only lip-service? Knowing their inclination to idolatry, God gave His people advance revelations of His will, to prevent them from turning again to idols for guidance. What sin are you as a Christian prone to commit?

Although God could not completely trust Israel, He still revealed His plans to lead them out of captivity back to their homeland. How do you assess your own situation now? Can God trust you to do better tomorrow? God was very patient in His dealings with stubborn Israel. For example, He afflicted them for a period but did not destroy them. Why (v. 11)? He continues to deal patiently with us who come to Him in Christ. However, unlike Israel of old, let us respond promptly to His corrective measures.

What next:

Do you turn promptly to God whenever you recognize your sinful actions?

Prayer:

Thank you, Father, for patiently dealing with me as Your child so that I may be refined as gold.

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from every unrighteousness. That we should bear in mind at all times.

most times or sometimes a lot of us live our life in circles. Sinning and come back to God for forgiveness and doing it over and over again. But thank God for God cause his love is just sufficient to embrace us without much love anytime we realize and come back.
