TOPIC:
Rights of Citizens
BIBLE READING:
Acts 22: 22-30
Qs. 7. See Questions HERE.
DISCUSSION:
Even master-preachers like Paul have limits. On mentioning "Gentiles", the crowd no longer tolerated his sermon. Their prejudice was severe. No wonder the opposed, accused and discredited him. They resumed their violent rowdiness, so the Roman commander rescued him. Having escaped the Jews, what awaited him among Romans (v. 24)? Till today, security agencies and vigilante groups of many nations and communities use torture during interrogation. How rampant is this around you? Some schools and families also practice it, assuming that if an accused suffers hard or long, he would "confess". How reliable is such confession gotten under duress?
Notice Paul's immediate reaction when the Roman military commander ordered him to be flogged (vs. 24-25)? Paul was a Roman citizen and knew his rights! The punishment would have been not only unfair, but also inappropriate and illegal. It is important for Christians to be well informed and know their rights and responsibilities within their countries and communities. However, notice the faithfulness of the Lord in protecting His servant, Paul, in this particular situation. This teaches us to be alert to the leading of the Holy Spirit in all circumstances of our lives, particularly in times of danger.
Note from v. 30 the opportunity that was opening up for Paul to address the leadership of the Jews.
So:
Know your rights and responsibilities as a Christian.
Prayer:
Lord, help me to be a responsible citizen here on earth, as I prepare for my eternal home.
REMAIN BLESSED!

This is one truth that is usually ignored by Christians. They believe God will intervene in everything. Yes! God is is capable of immediate intervention, but the essence of our brains is to use them. When our challenges go beyond what our handy capacity and tools van handle, then divine intervention becomes imminent. Know your writes and exercise them! Thanks @scripture-union for that reminder.
You are stating a truth. We should wake up to that reality. God bless you for sharing.
