What does poverty mean to you? It certainly means different thing to everyone. We all someway or somehow can define poverty from the reality of our experiences. It is subjective and relative. Someone once said, poverty means passing over opportunities repeatedly. Which is quite factly true and still stands till today.
But it is important to know the realities of everyone. Some don't even have the opportunity, no pillar of support and no one or nothing to count on for the future.
How is poverty defined by them? This is the focus of today's dailyten. As I collate words said by people overtime about poverty.
Here are today's ten timeless quotes
For me, poverty is a kind of deprivation from something which every human being has a natural right to have. The poverty of the lonely, the unloved, the outcast, the unwanted- who are hungry not only for bread but for love. I think the poorest of the poor are those who are yet touched- rather, those who have not allowed themselves to be touched- by God's love
- Mother Teresa, Calcutta, India.
Poverty to me means working for more than 18 hours per day, but still not earning enough to feed myself,my wife, and two children

Poverty is not realising your own intrinsic wealth
- Murray Hockman, an artist from NY
Poverty is a serious crime. It causes you to do bad things. It encourages people to live in bondage.
- Dembo Singhateh, a man from Gambia
Poverty is having to take from the rich to be able to eat
- John Rodriguez, a man from Bogota, Cambodia.
Poverty means remaining uneducated, working harder, having a low economic status and a child every year
- Itira Kumari, a social worker from Nepal.
Poverty means never having quite enough to eat
- Kevin McDonald, pan handler. NY.
Poverty means to live in huts with grass thatched roofs. The poor carry water in clay pots rather than in modern but expensive cans.
Poverty is the denial of all human rights. It is not created by the poor. It is created and sustained by the ‘system’ we have built around us.
- Muhammed Yunus
Poverty is being enslaved to seeking a crumb of bread instead of freedom of love and enjoy life
