I've lived through the 'end of the world' several times already. I have seen a few people go off the rails with religion, politics and other beliefs. The world is fucked up, but there are few leaders who would actually want to end it for themselves. They can still do terrible things, and are right now.

Yeah, good point. The reason why I'm religious (and never talk about it) is that secular beliefs can become even more extreme. At least Dan isn't actively trying to get millions of people killed.
As a Discordian, I believe that praying is to be avoided as a dangerous practice with unpredictable side-effects. Personally, I think the same applies to preaching.
Any extreme views can lead to trouble. It's intolerance to what others might think. I can think others are wrong, but I won't usually accuse them of being mentally ill or stupid. What we believe and think tends to be based on our personal situation and the information we get. Of course I have my own biases.
